Random question of the week:
Some of us are woefully aware of how crap the recent space games have been.
My 2 questions:
1: Would we play a 2D version of a game similar to Elite Dangerous, but with more 'meat' - things like proper MP, trading, things-to-do?
2: Does such a game already exist?
Twitch combat, not pseudo dice-rolling like Eve.
Discuss.

This is a mobile port but it's a good space game you can play ATM. |
On PC it's really nothing special. Galaxy on Fire 2 was good on mobile because it was impressive on mobile ... a few years ago. On PC, with other, much superior offerings, anyway you look at Galaxy on Fire 2 HD on PC, it is lackluster; gameplay, graphics, sounds, voice actors ( ), music, story - none are worthy of a PC release, especially considering a 20$ asking price. 20$

It is confirmed as coming to PC, it just doesn't "exist" yet.. and the developers are irritatingly silent whenever asked about always-online so... yes, it's always-online.

Yeah, terrible. I don't get how these days it is so hard for derpelopers to find decent voice actors. Go to any acting school, and there are many students there that are more than adequate to do the job for a low student price.

You could try Space Pirate and Zombies, pretty darn addictive (and the second one will be released later this year).
Or if you still haven't satisfied your masochistic needs, there's X-Rebirth always waiting for new adventures, through endless highways of glitched love, cinematic framerate, disappearing ninja spaceships, gamepad-friendly atmosphere and unforgettable quests

Honestly, I haven't played GOF 2 on pc yet. Really loved it on my old symbian phone.
I can add Limit Theory too, though it may take years until it's finished.
Oh, and if you want multiplayer play Dark Orbit. The best space mmo. Spoiler: | Don't even know if it's still alive? |

Space Rangers 2 HD has some DRM but it's primarily just AP triggers, nothing nasty running and no phoning home, so it's a "light" DRM. Star Wolves is great but it's really more of an action RPG than an Elite-alike, and Parkan ][ is one of my true guilty pleasures -- it's buggy, very Russian development, has terrible VA and is overall pretty ugly.... but still so much fun to play. Being able to board enemy ships and steal their cargo before setting self-destruct is immensely satisfying. Precursors... oh man. What a phenomenal *idea* for a game, just like Boiling Point, but is in the shortlist of buggiest most unplayable games ever made. Shame too as, like Parkan and Boiling Point, it's enormous and has so much gameplay to offer.
@fearwhatnow
Agreed, that's a damned fine shooter and I had an absolute blast playing that
