Yeah that was part of the earlier announced system requirements too, from what I've read it seems a popular theory is that this is primarily for GTA Online which Rockstar might work on and expand for years to come with new content but we'll see. Smile
(New cities have been talked about since the X360/PS3 versions came out I believe although nothing's confirmed yet and it's only now that heists are becoming available.)

That's not the worrisome part, cause like Battlefield taught us, every patch can bring 2~5gb, changing the system requirements by a substantial margin.
The periodic entitlement verification, on the other hand...

I would guess that the verification is some check via the Rockstar Games Social Club application, perhaps it works similar to the Battle.net application which does some strange check (Systemsurvey.exe) every couple of hours?

Probably already happened with GTA IV and more recently Max Payne 3 but I don't remember, guess one could always try to log the "RGSS" client and see what the hell it actually does.

absolutely no reason to preorder (ingame money...)

and with required activation that won't work on day one because of everyone going at once and rockstar shitty server, pirates might play it sooner than legit customers

will probably pirate it then buy it on sale for online

at least I can't be disappointed if the game runs like shit
