And for me it's gonna be my first Resident Evil ever. I'm genuinely excited Very Happy

And after this I want RE2 and RE3 getting the same treatment and coming to Steam.

never touched the gamecube edition so this will be a real nice playthrough for me. all those memories... So Much Win

because of that i would buy it even if i'm so broke right now (all that weed and pizza delivery right now cost me so much). so anyone know where to find it cheap? ;(

19.99? If you didn't spend your money on drugs I'd buy it for you.

Well sadly neither RE2 nor RE3 ever received such an upgrade, it was just RE1 and then RE0. So the only versions we could get would simply be upscaled originals and I'm fairly sure you can do that with the PC versions already, not to mention Dolphin with RE2/3.

Well this HD remaster version has to be an upscale (among other things of course) of that 2002 version anyway, right? (no 1080p back then that I know of). In which case I see no reason to oppose to an upscale of RE2 and RE3 Smile

Upscaled or untouched, bring them to Steam anyway

No, you misunderstand. RE1 was *remade* on GC. Not just upscaled from the PS1, but utterly remade with new rendered backgrounds, new models, new visuals. It's a pure remake in every sense of the word. Whereas RE2 and RE3 on the Gamecube were just ports of the PS1, slightly upscaled models but the same nonetheless. So if that's what you want, the same PS1 games just running in a higher res, you have that already since both RE2 and RE3 received native ports for the PC.

Recently? 1080p?

Yeah I know, not a chance, but like I said that's what I would like, no need to remake such fantastic classics Smile And worst case just bring them to Steam Wink

But... but... Neutral I don't get this at all, I feel like I'm missing something or you're just fucking with me Neutral

You specifically wanted the same treatment REmake got and I said it won't happen since they were never remade in the first place and then you say this HD remake is an upscale.. and it is, but it's an upscale OF THE REMAKE. RE1 was remade, RE2 and RE3 weren't. Then you say there's no need to remake such classics, yet you're looking forward to the RE1 remake? Scratch Head

That's what RE1 looked like on the PS1 compared to the remake on GC. Sadly neither RE2 nor RE3 received such treatment.

Ahhhh you just need me to to clear up that by similar treatment I didn't mean a remake, cause I didn't even know a remake existed (thanks for informing me) Wink I was talking about the remastering thing Smile

BTW I understand that from the original trilogy RE1 was the weakest, so I'm happy I'll be playing this superior version (according to what I've been reading) over the original inferior one Smile

Ahhh, okay.. yes, THAT makes sense grinhurt I doubt Capcom is going to bother trying to do anything with the static backgrounds on those so if you want to play RE1/RE2 "Remastered" grab the Gamecube versions, emulate them at 3x IntRes on Dolphin Smile It's a goddamn crime that Capcom never remade 2/3 like they did with 1... that would have been amazing Sad

imo 3 was the weakest of the psx trilogy, whereas 1 and 2 are fan favourites.
1 would be my personal fav since no horror game ever compared to playing re1 the first time back in 96.
it is also the toughest re game with scarce ammo and the best one in terms of horror, while re2 and 3 were alot more action oriented, though 2 was still a fucking awesome game in its own right.

Only memory I have of RE1 is giving up halfway because I was too scared to play (looking back I was definitely too young for this game).

I might finally finish when the remake comes out and then I can finally say I've become an adult.

Riiiiiiiight Very Happy

They are saved as just image stills actually. Both in the original and in this.

I was thinking about this comment earlier today..

The original was 2GB and according to Cedge's video there were '1000 or more' of these prerendered backgrounds.

Let's overly exaggerate that and say that there aren't 1,000 and that there are 5,000 1080p images instead.

Here is a very detailed 1920x1200 JPG at 900k. Here's the same thing as a PNG.

5,000 images that are 1MB each (which is extremely unoptimised) would only be 5GB of extra file size. Let's say they have 10,000 of these images at these sizes - it's still less than two thirds of 16GB. Yet there are only actually 1000 images or so?

Unless the backdrops are made up of thousands of images with semi transparency, I don't think it's so ridiculous to question why it's so much bigger now. Perhaps it's the intro/outro video files that are completely uncompressed.

Also, if they aren't using video files for the backdrop motion, what are they? Sprites?

Audio and video as well. Nowadays audio in games takes like 5GB by itself.

The 720p image files (+ 2D "boundaries" data etc that the file format contains) take up 3.55GB in the 360 version. Maybe it'll be double that for 1080p.

Then there are the videos which take 1.10GB for 720p and perhaps should be doubled as well.

Audio takes little space in the 360 version, 450MB, but on PC there are no limits to make it fit in a disc so..

Oh and they are consecutively rendered and saved stills.

Yeah like what? RE1 Remake was the best RE ever made by far! RE2 was great though as well, 3 was crappy to me kinda.

RE2 was a bit more easy on ammo but it had more action as well! Great game!

Oh i agree, the GC version of this game was incredible for its time and even for today, it certainly gives off the creepy atmosphere, the game is great and i keep telling people to play this game. This is true survivor horror!

Yeah the game is running great with the emulator and I don't have any problems with the classic controls so I don't see any point in even trying the remastered version.
