About This Game
Avernum 2: Crystal Souls is an epic, indie, fantasy role-playing adventure in a unique, massive world. The subterranean land of Avernum is full of strange caves, cunning dungeons, and the alien inhabitants of the underworld. Explore a massive, underground nation of tunnels and caverns, packed with over 100 towns and dungeons. Fight to complete up to three distinct game-winning quests.
Avernum 2: Crystal Souls features:
Epic fantasy adventure with over 50 hours of gameplay. An enormous underworld, with multiple nations and alien cultures.
Rich game system with over 60 spells and battle disciplines and a multitude of beneficial character traits to choose from.
Over 100 towns and dungeons.
Three separate game-winning quests. There are many ways to fight the invaders. Do just one of them or all three!
Unique races and settings make Avernum different from any adventure out there.
Dozens of side quests and hundreds of magical artifacts.

I can't nor even want to quantify my backlog, because a human life span is just not enough even to play everything on the PC I want to play, let alone if I go the derp route

The end has come. Years ago, your people were imprisoned in the underworld, doomed to end their lives in the darkness. Then that was not enough. Your captors have invaded your caves, determined to kill you all. They are winning the war.
Spiderweb Software, Inc. announced today their return to their epic Avernum saga, to continue the story of the underworld Avernites and the war against their oppressors. Avernum 2: Crystal Souls is the second chapter in this indie fantasy role-playing saga, a tale of desperate exiles and their battle for survival and a land to call their own.
The surface world is commanded by the tyrannical Empire, the eternal power that controls all known lands. Everyone who spoke out, misbehaved, or didn’t fit in was cast into the dark, volcanic pits of Avernum, far below the surface. They were meant to die. Instead, these exiles survived, gained power, and struck back. They assassinated the lord of the Empire.
Now the Empire will have revenge. They have invaded Avernum, seizing cave after cave and destroying your people. Your land needs a hero, and it needs it now. If you can’t find a way to stop them, and soon, you are all doomed.

Spiderweb Software announces the release of Avernum 2: Crystal Souls, saying their "fantasy role-playing adventure" is now available for Windows and OS X, carrying a 15% launch discount on their website, GOG.com, and Steam.

As always with Spiderweb's non-Avadon titles, this game has a ridiculous amount of content. 14 hours in and I still haven't touched most of the world.

I never played Avernum, never even heard of it. How is it compared to Avadon? While I was very impressed by Avadon when I started, it sadly got boring so I didn't finish it. Is this better than Avadon?

The actual gameplay is similar to Avadon (combat etc), but the Avernum series is free roam and open world, as opposed to the linear Avadon. I've always personally considered the Avernum and Geneforge series to be vastly superior to Avadon. |
