PostPosted: Thu, 29th Jan 2015 01:27    Post subject: My dog.....
I thought I would officially tell you guys. My dog, the one in my forever profile pic got really sick the other night. My ex dropped him off and he was ok, he could walk. He's 16 almost 17 yrs. Later that evening he couldn't get get up. I managed to lift him up and support his back legs and he just gushed pee. I got him outside and in back in, he laid down and didn't move. Something was really wrong with him. I called my ex, and told him. He listened, but he thought I was exaggerating. My ex remained very reachable. I knew.... I pushed maxim closer to me on the floor and just spent the night with him. I fed him real chicken and some people cookies. , kept him as clean as I could and just talked to him. A small part of me hoped he would recover. The next day he was worse. If I moved him, he was in pain and would whimper. I shoved towels under him for his pee. I asked my ex to take the next day off work, he was leaving to the island to see his new girlfriend and I told him him to keep his plans.

He came over and we took Maxim into the vet together and put him to sleep. He couldn't walk at all. Dan had to lift and carry him., all 85 lbs of him. His nose started bleeding when dan put him down in the vets office. The last thing Maxim saw and heard was me. Both of us actually. He didn't fight it, he didn't struggle. He wasn't scared. I haven't cried in over 5 years but the tears flowed then. I really think Maxim came home to me to die. Dan is really great with him fun hikes and all that but I'm the one that has always watched over physically, his health, poking him, looking at his teeth, catching his pee to take to the vet....taking him to the vet..... Fussing over him. I spent 2 beautiful nights with him. We did selfies, and I told him how he was the bestest dog in the world.

I picked up his ashes today.

I am so sad but at the same time I feel so lucky. Dan was so reachable and supportive. It was hard, really hard at time to keep that anger in check with the divorce but I did. Because of that I was able to maintain my commitment to my puppy, right to the end. That hard work I did paid off, I have some solace in the end.

I was quite happy tonight till I read that Sad

Did you find out what was actually wrong with him? Seems odd to have such a sudden change. But I guess his age was against him.

My condolences.
Cherish the memories Smile
And get a new pup as soon as you're able to contain it emotionally. The "emotional space" left behind is too big to leave empty.

Thanks guys. He was just old.

Not getting a new one. I'm not in the position to get a new dog. I'm getting, trying to get a condo in the next 2 yrs and there are so many rules about pets I don't want to limite my choices. My boyfriend has a wonderful dog.

I'll post my last few pictures maybe when I go home tonight. They are on my computer.

To be honest the idea of how it will be is much much worse than when it actually happens.

Jacky my dear, so sorry to hear! It's good that you were both together to comfort him in the last moments.
I know it may seem too early, but really get a new puppy. With the time passing by, a puppy will help with the sadness, and you shouldn't be alone. Dogs fill the house with love and when they pass, there is a black hole to fill.

Stay strong!

My condolences, it's always hard to lose someone you love. Sadness will stay with you for a bit but it will get better with time. Lost my dog to almost the same thing your dog endured, except with the nose bleeding. Hope Maxim had a great life cause he looked like a great dog. Stay strong ! Sad

I'm sorry to hear that Shrimpie :/

Lost a few dogs myself and it doesn't get any easier. It's good that you had some last time with him Smile A proper goodbye does help with processing it. Even if it hurts, keep those good memories coming in and it will put smiles on your face instead of just tears.

Bit silly, saw the topic yesterday night and I avoided coming in. Sad

I'm so sorry Pistol, my condolences Sad Crying or Very sad. These are terrible moments..stay strong, even if it's really never easy, no matter the efforts. I've been through something very very similar 3 years ago with my old persian cat..the first days are horrible, but after you realize that it's just nature doing its course, and at the same remember all the good moments spent together, the sorrow gradually becomes something else entirely, until there are only great memories and positive thoughts left. Those will always be with you =)

I'm doing ok. It helps knowing that I was loyal to him until the end. Having no regrets helps me walk through this with a bit of grace. My boyfriend has a dog too so I can love her. She's a German Shepard border collie mix. Little goof ball. I've been really enjoying work the last few days, I've started running earlier than any other year. Usually it was April. I think Vancouver is the Second most expensive to live in after Hong Hong. A place to live is out of reach for many. A new dog would just complicate that. I find it VERY anti dog here. I know only one lake that you are even allowed to let your dog on the beach. Some trails, are a no go for dogs too. I'm going to wait until I'm old and retired. Then I'm moving out to the boonies and I'll have a dog again. Until then I'll have my boyfriends dog to love and play with, for as long as we have her, she's 10.

Dog get old so fast. It's such a shame. It's a big hole they leave behind.

Very sad to hear... Sad

Went through a similar situation 4 or so years ago. Our beloved dog of 15 years passed away after being unable to walk for a few days. Some say it's just a pet but it's more than that, it's part of the family.

Said i would never get a dog again but i eventually caved. We got a small pug and now im glad we did, awesome mutt... Smile
