The Day the Earth Caught Fire 6,5/10
Liked the concept, would make for a decent disaster movie remake if they threw a decent budget on it. Acting was at times flat, but I'm more forgiving for movies from the 60's In the end it did entertain me.

not sure why everyones so down on it, it was SO much better than the second one... not nearly as good as the first, but it was still decent enough.
i was never bored, and while the film was incredibly cliche, especially the cop who believes his innocence thing, i enjoyed the play-off between neeson and whittaker. Also thought it was pretty funny at times, and was at least reasonably coherent
negatives - it was stupidly bloodless due to pg13 or whatever rating it was... i mean to the point of silliness... we're supposed to believe she was murdered with a slit throat, but all you see is a little red mark... and when someone gets shot theres no wounds youd almost think he missed...
also the fights... which could have been quite well choreographed, were really poorly shot... stupid quick edits and shakey cam... when will directors get the hint that no one likes that shit.
so yeah... decent enough action film overall.

John Wick 8/10
Nonsensical story, great sound effects, not aimed towards twelve year olds (so: violence with blood!) and a whole lot of action with great gun fights. Yup the kind of action movie I like.
This one was quite clear what it was and it did that well so yup an 8.

Fury 8/10
I went into this movie with very low expectations thinking it would be a pretty shit 'murica movie, but boy was I wrong.
They really did a good job with this film. Yeah, the final battle is way over the top, but everything up to that I thought was really well done. It's this final battle that really lowers the overall score of the film. Had they done something differently here, and not gone full retard with this final battle I think the film would easily take the cake as one the better war movies out there. Besides the glaring realism issues with the final battle, the final battle also made no sense for any of the characters. It's a shame they decided to do this to the film.
Solid film otherwise, will defiantly be a film I watch again in the future which says a lot. I can't even remember a newer movie that I'd say that about.

I honestly with they had gone with the "Mist" ending... As in, the guy who survived puts the gun in his mouth and waits, finally killing himself just as the allied forces are opening the hatch.

yea but given the last 15 minutes of cod, it was obvious that it wouldnt end that way, although it wouldve been much better.

It's such a fucking shame because the movie was a tank movie. For the final battle they should have just had them be involved in some massive tank battle, and slowly killed each character off.
You'd have just as much action but it would have fit the film MUCH better, and the action would have been better. The film shines during those intense moving battles throughout the film. Ending it the way they did was just stupid and anti climatic.

I think they wanted to make something like the 300 Spartans last stand and I'm not sure I can blame them for that. It's kinda "beautiful" and poetic.

wild card
it was OK. nothing special, pretty forgettable... very few fights (only two and a half), but they were the exactly OPPOSITE of taken 3's fights... these fights were fantastically choreographed and wonderfully filmed... no shitty cuts, you could actually see the moves and they wonderful to watch.
this films action scenes + this films blood and violence + taken 3's story and pacing = would have been a fantastic film.

Nightcrawler - 7.5/10
Great social commentary, anti media movie but it lacked something in the terms of ambience. Jake, fuck me, he was scary (10/10 role).

The Lincoln Lawyer - 8/10
I don't know why it took me so long to watch it (I can blame the backlog, as usual), but I'm really glad I did it.
Well-written, perfectly paced, with a superb McConaughey (when he went with his iconic alright alright alright, I instantly grinned xD) as well as the rest of the cast. Marisa Tomei..
Good set of twists too, it's always pleasant when a movie isn't predictable. Loved the ending also.

The Equalizer - 7.5/10
It's funny that we get two almost identical movies in such a short time. Personally I liked Equalizer a lot more than Baba yaga. It had one thing John Wick just didn't: good characters. While Wick was fighting a bunch of punks and old, singing gangsers, McCall is going up against a guy who's almost as fucked up and scary as he is. And he IS scary and fucked up. When I commented on JW here, I said I just wasn't scared of Keanu's character, despite his efforts. Well, Denzel certainly convinced me to be scared of his. With his fucked up clocks and counting... he just seemed wrong. Eerie. Always slightly out of place.
All in all, it's a good 90' style movie.

rec 4
as usual, IMDB and I are not seeing eye to eye
i loved that it wasn't more shitty found footage crap, and i love that this is the kind of horror set-up i love - small cast of characters in an isolated, dark and atmospheric location and being killed one by one... even junky horror movies using this setup i still tend to find very enjoyable. Setting it on a ship is a +1 for horror films for me (other automatic +1's include space stations, arctic research stations, abandoned ruined asylums and enclosed colony habitats.)
and those monkeys were fucking terrifying. screeching little furry psychopaths, fuck!
i think the film started off magnificently, and was really great up until the last... quarter? last third? kinda ran out of steam, and the plot became a bit silly... just wish if they were going to explain all of this, they'd have had a more substantial, cohesive and rational plan, but oh well.
would still give a 6.5/10
found it more enjoyable than the second film, but haven't seen the third one yet.

What We Do In The Shadows - 8/10
What a pleasant surprise (I've been watching good movies only lately, it's better for the health xD), surely one of the best comedies that I've seen in a long time.
So well-made, with pretty much everything, including satire, pop-culture references, dark humour, dozens of hilarious jokes, awesome characters and really good acting. You can't go wrong with this one, highly recommended!

And now go watch/download the best film so far in 2015 -> The Little Death. At times the humour is even better than WWDITS.
