I like that this one at least has quests... Terraria was really fun though.
How do you regenerate the first planet? when i start a new character it is still the same world.. do i need to reinstall the whole thing to regenerate it??
Also, does the quests in this work yet (i've gotten to the part where i am asked to go to the Star Gate in the system, but no idea what to do there really)?

\steamapps\common\Starbound\giraffe_storage\universe
There the universe is stored.

Yes, I already did several quests. Look for NPCs with exclamation marks over their heads and talk to them.

Fix them how? They're faster, that's their advantage but they also break and don't reach as far.. They should be seen as a "boost" device, like the bombs in Terraria..

You could always use a mod, there is no 'fix' MM is the tool of choice now with upgrades it's even reportedly better than the drills.

i hate using the MM, it ruins the whole game for me. the game felt way more fun in the older versions, where the pickaxe was the main tool.

This has nothing to do with difficulty. They can easily make the pickaxe less powerful, when it comes to breaking the blocks. It is because they had the MM in the game, but no one was using it, so they decided to cripple the pickaxe, which is bullshit in my opinion. They should make the MM equal to the pickaxe and let the players decide which tool they like better.

Well I don't really get what's the big issue, you can make Picks out of 2 ores and while they break pretty fast they can mine (depending on the material, like diamond that lasts much much longer) quite a few blocks before breaking. The first 2-3 upgrades to the MM are easily obtainable and for impatience there's always the picks/drills.
I played it for a while and it took me less than a day to get to tier 4 (where the MM is already quite powerful), where you barely use it. And hooray, this game is moddable and it's the stable branch which lasts for a while.
How about you use a Mod or many more of them to adjust your preference, it's easy to complain (and by no means I defend it, as I liked them as well) but why do that if you can (if there's a mod yet) fix that yourself within the time you spent arguing? You'll have to get these materials anyway if you want to do the quests, maybe use the Creative Mod if you want to have everything from the beginning.
It IS about difficulty, the MM has a 2x2 field at first, upgrades to 3x3 after some time which the pickaxe has from the start and is much faster overall, make 3-4 of them and only mine ores with it, problem solved, everything else is just being too comfortable how it was back then.

I just wish they would implement a feature where if you break a pick, and if you have an identical one in your inventory, it would automatically replace the broken one with a fresh one.

My problem is the first world I was on really didn't have a lot of ore underground despite mining down pretty far. I think they need to extend the life of these pickaxes.

so let me get this straight - more clicks to break the blocks = harder gameplay = more enjoyable gameplay?
so.. Terraria was easy and non-enjoyable game?

Yeah I know progression is dumb right
Every games should just start in front of the end game boss with 1% hp!!!
The MM can be upgraded through the game to mine faster and more blocks.

Talk to the computer, it will tell you. But you only need to fix the thrusters to travel inside the starting system. IIRC, you only need some core fragments, that can be mined at near the bottom of the first planet. Lots of glowing crystal ore. Easy to recognize.

I got them fixed. So I should be able to find a gate that's in range of my thrusters? |
Isn't there a gate in every system? You don't need FTL for in-system travel.

It's really badly explained in game. You can travel to the gate in system then pick up a few quests, you need to finish all of these quests before you can travel any further. None of the quests you pick up seem related to the main story, had to look it up to see how to progress it.

My point exactly. If I see ore that I need now I just have to be relatively near it, point to it and press the button without moving my character. Before this I had to figure a way to get my character next to the ore in order to be able to break it. And yes, I know that you can hold the MB in order to mine. Unlike most people I did not stop playing the game since the last stable release.
vurt wrote: |
I also think a pick axe makes very little sense in a game with such advanced tech. You can beam yourself down to a planet, but you have to use stone age tools to dig |
Now this actually is one of the main reasons that they crippled the pick axes in the game - people bitching that there are pick axes in a space game.

Really? Just because I want an element of the game NOT being removed this means that I am the type of person, who likes to press a button one button and win a game?
You guys seem to misunderstand the main point here. I don't want to have the pick axe, because it is easier to play with. I want them to make the pick axe EQUAL to the MM. Same amount of blocks, same time to break them, same upgrade ladder, without having to craft a new pick axe every 10 seconds. You don't have to create a new MMs all the time. Right? Right. I don't see how this would make the game easier.
But nooooo... pick axes are not "spacey" enough. And bows and arrows, axes, crafting tables, anvils and camp fires in the goddamn space ship are?

New update!
http://playstarbound.com/stable-pleased-giraffe-is-here/
Definitely some nice things alongside long wished features (Inv Sorting and expanded Inventory!), possibility to colonize a planet by yourself and some more things that don't make you feel all alone in the whole game. Video gives a pretty good overview.
