I imagine Neill tossing the coin as we speak, 'huge risk or awesome opportunity?', and then suddenly the coin lands on its edge. In all seriousness, I'd go for it

So he basically didn't ask them but somehow is sure they would make it? That's silly.

blomkamp's films are heavy on shitty social commentary and agenda pushing, and id rather not see that crap in the alien films to be honest... im not a fan... and to be honest, i dont think hes that great either. district 9 was ok, elysium was shit.
i hope this doesn't go ahead. i love the alien franchise, and id love to see it go ahead, but not with this guy.

The search is over.
We've found the one. |
BTW I'm not entirely satisfied with my thread's title.. I'm not sure how to word it.. He has been given the go ahead to come up with a coherent vision and script but it could end up in development hell for whatever reason and never be made.
So don't read it as "cameras are about to roll!"

i like alien 3 as well. its miles better than resurrection, and forms part of a pretty solid and diverse original trilogy. movie gets more shit than it deserves. far from perfect, but still really enjoyable and with a great cast.

New ‘Alien’ Movie Confirmed with Director Neill Blomkamp
... on Wednesday Blomkamp confirmed the tentpole was back on track at Fox.
“So I think this is officially my next film,” he confirmed on Instagram.
It’s unclear whether Weaver is still attached to the movie.

i like the alien 3 special edition
the theaterical film is nonsensical but the longer version makes more sense
Quote: | the new “Alien” takes place years after the “Prometheus” sequel. |
so no ripley and hicks as per his original pitch

I think this means "it has nothing to do with the Prometheus movies", not an indication on what characters will come back.

Likely more or less right after Prometheus 1 due to way it ended...
http://www.scified.com/site/prometheusmovies/ridley-scott-talks-prometheus-2-while-promoting-exodus
Quote: | During the interview, Scott confirms the film will focus on Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and the currently-decapitated android David (Michael Fassbender) as they search for the Engineer's homeworld. He also touches on David's manipulative personality and potentially malicious motives by adding:
“Once that head goes back on, [David] is really dangerous, but he’s also very seductive. So maybe he’ll persuade [Shaw] to help him put the head back." |
Anyway like I said:
Quote: | UPDATE: 20th Century Fox has since confirmed the news, clarifying that this is, indeed, a sequel to the original Alien franchise and not the Prometheus sequel currently set for release March 4, 2016. |
That previous quote just means that it's set after the Prometheus movies and therefore it does not tie in with those.

basically all that means absolutely nothing, since prometheus was set before alien, and aliens and alien 3 happen relatively quickly after that, so saying its after the aliens franchise kinda means... not much..
pretty sure it wont be after alien resurrection.. i think everyone would like to forget that happened, and i dont even really consider it to be part of the canon since EVERYTHING was weird and stupid about that movie...
..even if it DID have ron perlman...

You are right.
Let's give it to JJ Abrams+Lindelol duo. They have done so much good for Sci-Fi genre. |
id have loved to have seen it given to the guy who did pandorum.

Agreed, never understood why everyone liked them so much.
Atleast it will be near impossible to be as shit as Pometheus.

Maybe (doubt it), though Scott does not work for Fox, the franchise's owners. Ultimately they are the ones that will accept or reject a proposed concept.

Err, the title has already been changed since yesterday. I won't use the usual format I'm using in other threads for now, since it's simply in development rather than ready to move in production.

in a world ran by rich corporations, the gene of the alien is harvested to breed and repair the perfect 1%'s.
ripley and hicks now retired, live at the bottom of the food chain living off of scraps left over by the 1%'s when suddenly ripley senses something is wrong when she finds a dead facehugger.
hicks and ripley investigate and find out that the 1%'s are evil and try to take down. All in the background of class warfare, shots of starving children and a poignant message about the current state of the world. It'll include a total of three scenes with an actual alien. One, is a remaster to bring us back into the classics, one of an alien in a water tube being harvested and at the very end where they destroy the corporation and we see the alien in the tube burn in the explosion.
