So 2 of my good mates are moving to England in a couple of weeks, and I have a question to anyone on this board from UK;

If I rent out let's say a 2 bedroom apartment, can we just share the rent or will the landlord demand that each of us pays the full amount? If so, can I be the only one legally on the contract whereas the other guys presence will be kept from the landlord?

Thanks

I assume UK uses the freedom of contract rule, so that means that whatever you negotiate with the landlord is fine as long as it's not illegal, technically he can charge you both full price but I don't think that happens that often, who would sign a contract like that Laughing

The price asked for is the price you would share between you. Like Neon said, it would all be dependent on the contract.

I'm not even that sure what you mean, because a person renting a property will have a price and then the tenant or tenants will pay that price.

Edit: btw, whereabouts in the UK are you moving to?

I suppose there's no country in the world where each additional tenant would have to pay the full price for the house or apt, lol. But it's every landlord's wettest dream, I guess Smile

Saw a few multi-bedroom houses that demanded each tenant to pay the full price, hence my confusion

I'm sure the total price was broken into single-bedroom prices and those were posted

.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo

Im from Margate do NOT go anywhere near that shithole. I lived there for 25 years. If it wasn't for my Mum still living in Broadstairs, i would never step foot back there. I've not been to Gillingham for years, just remember they had a great BMX/Skate park i used to go to on the weekends when i was a kid.

Edit: From my past experience if you rent say a 2 bed place its normally just One rent and you split, cant say i have seen rent having to be paid in full by both tenants. The only way that happens is you are paying just for the bedroom, and you share other amenities.

Dare I ask what 80 pcm gets you...? Unless you are living with parents or something.

It's a caravan rented out to me by my employer. It's not that bad; around 30 sqm, 3 bedrooms, kitchen, toilet, separate shower, lounge, electric heating (i don't pay for electricity), broadband... pretty much everything and it looks great (from inside). I live by myself.

Sounds like a good deal to me mate, especially with the free electric that would probably cost you about £20 per week on heating.
