Summary:

Set in the untamed West of the late-1800s, GUN is a free-roaming action-adventure game that takes players to a world without laws where greed, lust and murder are rampant. As Colton White, a vengeful gunslinger, players must straddle the line between good and evil as they showdown against corrupt lawmen, a murderous preacher, renegade army psychopaths, merciless outlaws and unforgiving Native Americans, while waging war on horseback, collecting bounties, and commandeering trains. Players travel through an action-packed landscape of high mountain wilderness, deserts and bustling territorial towns in an epic story of betrayal, greed, and revenge.

Features:

* Expansive Free-Roaming Interactive World – Players traverse on horseback or foot through a living, populated environment that stretches from the snowy mountains of Montana, to the plains of Dodge City, Kansas and the deserts of New Mexico where danger is at every turn.
* Extensive Variety of Missions – Experience an extensive variety of missions such as: wage war on horseback, hunt for bounties, play poker, protect ladies of the night, hunt buffalo, assault a frontier fort.
* Broad Range of Gameplay – Multiple gameplay styles include: strategic gunplay and precision shooting, stealth tactics, and use of explosives. Embark on numerous side missions to master gun slinging and horse riding. Players can unlock secret weapons and upgrade skills and abilities to improve their weapon and equipment performance.
* Epic Storyline – Written by Hollywood scriptwriter Randall Jahnson (Mask of Zoro, The Doors), GUN’s engrossing storyline and plot progression will transport players back in time to the lawless West where they encounter ladies of the night, a murderous preacher, and many other characters.
* Experience the Brutality and Gritty Lawlessness of The West – Players battle their way through a harsh, visceral and unforgiving landscape that portrays the West as it really was. They can act as a gunslinger protecting righteousness or seek retribution as they face resistance fighters, local lawmen, renegade soldiers and vengeful Native Americans.
* Authentic Weapons – Encounter authentic gunslingers of the time and utilize a multitude of authentic weapons such as: six shooters, shotguns, Gatling guns, flaming arrows, hatchets, and dynamite.

hold your horses! just got back home. gimme a couple of minutes! Smile

anyway, read in some reviews that the story in this game is really short and that there isnt really much else to do in this open world. might still be enjoyible for a day or two...or three.

edit: ok ive played it now. up to the burning of the saloon part.

its ok, reminds me of total overdose, but in wild west instead. i like the feeling when riding horses.

i dont like the shooting too much though, it feels kind of cheap. one press on Y and you go into slowmo mode and then you press left thumb for targets. the overall feeling when shooting just doesnt feel as heavy as i want it too. also the targeting cross feels a bit weired.

still a nice lil game, which ill play thru probably. since its wild west it earns some bonus points. hehehe. Smile

thx for the mini review Nailbiter, to be honest this isn't a game that I anticipated to be great even though it seems to be generating alot of hype grabbed it and i'll give it a shot later on though.

How the hell do you manage to play all these games Nailbiter? Do you play em all or just a select few. Cause at the moment im not kidding when I say I have around 15-20 recent Xbox games that I haven't even unpacked plus a further 10+ (including COD2 and new Harry Potter) which have been played for less than 5 mins. Laughing

haha no i dont play all games that comes out. far from it! Laughing

matrix, castlevania and from russia with love im not even going to bother with for example.

i usually try out the big ones, but many i discard after playing for 30 minutes or so. bf2 for example. doubt ill ever play cod2 again either btw.

and some games i pick up just for the kids. they love the crash tag racing game btw. Smile

im getting pretty picky now, i think most games lately haved sucked actually. the bloom effect they have in all games are driving me nuts. and almost no game can live up to the hype anymore. ssx, stubbs, burnout and tons more. most are just boring sequels, where the last game was better.

the few games i liked last couple of months is only a handfull. ninja gaiden:black, warriors, fahrenheit, pes5 and some more...oh call of cthulhu is pretty ok too...

but yeah, i wont buy a new generation console untill next year sometime and i have some games to go thru untill then, that i already have burned and are ready to go. not too many exciting titles left worth waiting for either.

well it feels very well done with great scenery , lots of head shots and action i and am playing it on hard to try and get a little bit more uot of it.

As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.

@Nailbiter - aha, thats pretty much what I do.

Grab alot of kids games for younger relatives although sometimes I check em out first Crash Tag Racing, the new Spongebob game and the other Nickleodeon game plus Chicken Little being examples of games that really aren't that bad for messing around on although clearly were aimed at kids.

I agree about the recent releases but its what I expect of games nowadays and I don't see it changing when the next gen consoles and cards come out either, more sequels, better graphics, same old rehashed gameplay and perhaps shockingly some developers managing to ruin some franchises - Rainbow Six latest game being the perfect example plus the Ghost Recon game doesn't look much better unless having an onscreen HUD/helmet like a Star Wars Republic Commando is supposed to somehow improve gameplay, ruin it more like. Then there was that Tony Hawks game which just wasn't all that great Confused

I enjoy this time of the year cause im into american sports games which the 2K series is good for plus I liked Blitz the League although would concede its just plain dumb fun there isn't anything truly special about it.

I liked the games that you mentioned plus a few others last month on PC but yeah certainly nothing new about the majority of the last few months games.

*sorry for off-topic by the way fellas will post my impressions of this game after I've gave it a good testing* Razz

Last PAL game I tried was lord of the rings (the rpg one) and it was black and white unless I changed all my stuff to PAL.

Is gamespot your game guru?
Why not look at http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/929178.asp?q=gun instead? where most have given it a 8(80%) or better, and the average score is 84%, that's a really good score.

You guys really need to open your eyes and stop crying about gamespot's scores. :/

I was pleasantly surprised by this, from initial impressions a bit better than Red Dead Revolver none of the gimmicky crap that ruined portions of that game either. It doesn't seem as limited as that game was as well.

I only tryed the PC version of this cause I couldn't be arsed burning the Xbox one but yeah seems like fun, I liked the stuff on the horse and the little touches like the Texas Hold Em game plus the graphics are pretty decent not incredible but nice all the same. I think I'll get the Xbox version burned and try that as well, the mouse/camera controls seemed a little twitchy on the PC - good stuff though. Smile

bloodthirsty indians and mass-slaughter of wildlife in only the first couple of minutes of the game. all women are hookers and the men are either gunslingers or crooks (or both).

wow, the wild west must have been a pretty exciting time period. Wink

This game seems to have spawned some of the wildest comments I've seen in along time, I saw someone saying it was better than GTA, several GOTY comments and someone else said it was a Elder Scrolls Morrowind in the Wild West!.

Off topic......Sounds like a depressing time period to me, prostitutes are vile creatures - I've been propositioned a few times in respectable parts of the city where I work and its horrid, one of my mates even got propositioned by a hooker when he was with his wife. Laughing

I think this game has some nice ideas, but the graphics really ruin it for me. It just looks really cartooney.

@ star

haha yeah, that was sarcasm comming from me. found the story to be a bit too cheesy in gun (so far). i ilked the plot in oddworld: strangers wrath better. heh sorry, best i could come up with comparing cowboy genre wise. Smile

but its not like stereotypes is something new in games.

Oddworld: Strangers Wrath was a very good game, I may replay that to completion again some time in the near future it had exceptionally good voice acting in it as well.

Best step for any company that creates these Wild West style games is to go down the same route as something like Oddworld which was fantasy mixed with the Wild West and as such a totally fresh story or take a leaf from the tv show Deadwood and make the characters, dialogue and environments really really dirty - the sort of place where even the good guys are bad guys although even some of the themes in that show are "borrowed".

I still like Gun all the same even if it is a little predictable storywise, the main characters father/mentor being killed at the start as an example.
