When I try to run the splintercell3.exe, it starts for a second and then quits (the process). Why does this happen? I followed the instructions perfectly.

can i remove starforce, apply the crack, and still play the game normally? ( i bought it ).
i dont feel like reinstalling it completely.
why you just don't try. I think it works, because i tried the game paradise clone and when later on reloaded came. I removed the starforce drivers and put the crack on it and just working normally
i don't know if someone already realized this, but the RLD release crashes when you're talking to OTOMO near the end of the game. I tried restarting from the last saved game but it keeps crashing. I was playing in hard mode

So, after completing pandora tommorow gameboy graphics edition , moved on to the next game in the series.
I can't believe that in 2006 they still didn't properly have widescreen support. and what's even more baffling, no one made a hud stretch fix for widescreen.
there's a widescreen fixes for pretty much everything from that era, but no one did it for this game
What positively surprised me (maybe that's just due to playing pandora's tommorow in 640x480 ), the graphics hold up pretty well. outside of the plastic look of the characters in rain, everything else is still looking good.
And the gameplay improvements are huge, even just from the first level I completed so far.
I can already see why people here praise it. I can rarely play 2 games in a series back to back, but this is just good stuff.
Im currently playing conviction, (never played it before, had a crappy computer at the time conviction came out)
I understand the hate for conviction but its not a bad game, its just a bad splinter cell game overall.
Im gonna hijack this thread and ask what other games from 2010-2015 have you guys been replaying or are playing for the first time, or for that matter.. are planning on playing?
I recently also played singularity, a game that passed on my radar, and it was rly good...
On topic
Chaos theory is one of my top 5 stealth games, it is rly good, the graphics do indeed hold up very nicely till this day.
Dege's DgVoodoo 2 wrapper is really cool.. it's not just a glide wrapper, it is also a DX1-7 (every version of DX before the introduction of shaders) and DX8.1 wrapper to DX11!
This is really cool and can help solve problems with old games that no longer render correctly on modern Windows.
Splinter Cell 1 (& 2) was always a peculiar case. The game was designed to exploit the nvidia hardware inside the original Xbox and provide very cool shadows back in the day.
In order to provide the same visuals as the Xbox version the PC port needed a (then) modern nvidia GPU to use it the exact same way, probably not quite adhering to the DirectX standard. AMD GPUs, earlier nvidia GPUs, later nvidia GPUs, compatible nvidia GPU but later drivers = simplified shadows because either the GPU lacks the hardware function the game expects or the drivers have removed support for it.
Long story short (probably) many people never got it to display correctly back in the day and today (definitely) no one could.
But now thanks to DX11 being programmable an effort to emulate the original appearance that is no longer supported by modern GPUs and drivers has been made.
How Splinter Cell looks on anything but ancient nvidia GPUs running ancient nvidia drivers:
How the wrapper makes it look:
Press play on both videos and notice the reappearance of shadows thanks to the wrapper.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Good ol' shadows and volumetric lighting, welcome back!
The two most impressive features of the game back in the day technically speaking, amazing work
edit: I just realized that we have 17 Chaos Theory active threads in the PC Arena and nothing for the original, what the hell xD
@consolitis Think I used that on pandora tomorrow. Works great.
I tried playing chaos theory recently and the thermal vision filter just plum didn't work. No heat signatures. Used all my google fu and changed my 7870's drivers but couldn't figure it out.
Just doesn't work with win10+my hardware setup I guess
