How could anyone in their right mind let a "small independent team" with a "history" that doesn't instill much confidence develop a D&D game? I wonder why couldn't Digital Extremes develop this game on their own?

Sword Coast Legends feels reminiscent of Neverwinter Nights (NWN); it's a comparison that is definitely warranted.......
We have a lot of stories to tell, characters to meet and places to visit, but we cannot create them all this year! We plan to keep going as long as people keep playing.
DLCs? What about editor?

. In other words, for our partners it's critical they capture the feel of the latest edition of rules, but not necessarily the specific mechanics.
The good news out of this is Atari is fucking done with it. if they were smart, they'd find the troika guys and have them work on it. The ToEE engine is old at this point, but it doesn't look that bad even compared to the new stuff

Oh yeah mentioned that before - I still from time to time install ToEE and marvel at its kick ass combat system, always stop before going into the snoozefest of the actual temple tho.
I have a feeling 5th edition will be really good as a crpg system. Its far from the vast 3.5, but thats a good thing by now and 4th tried so hard to be a kids boardgame it had to fail.
Wow, a 15 minute blur fest from them. Oh well. Looks like it might be decent though. Seems pretty heavily scripted but as long as they have enough content, it should still be good.
Ehhh... I'm not too impressed, to be honest. It looks very, very simplified, easy as fuck and somewhat bland. It also seems to be using cooldowns mechanic, which has absolutely nothing to do with DnD of any kind. I know it might not mean much for most people, but it does for me - in a tactical, RTwP RPG game I would prefer DnD to just be DnD, not some simplified, typical cRPG crap. Esspecially since 5e could be really cool when converted into a computer game.

If that cooldown stays that DM mode better be near godly.
I've loved the look of this since the first gameplay reveals but yeah.. no buying sight-unseen; I'm looking forward to yarring this, seeing how it plays, then picking it up later
Eurogamer reports peasant station and derpbone versions later this year. Basically, a console game travestying as a CRPG, as they attempted to trick us. If you were wondering why the simple and puny interface in the videos and if the list based inventory wasn't already a dead giveaway, well, now you know why they were like that. I don't think the game looked very good from what they showed so far, but who knows. Fingers crossed until we play the game
Too bad nearly nobody will use it i guess. Just look at Divnity:OS and it's powerful editor. There are still only a handful of new campaigns, and most of them are just mini campaigns.

Yup I honestly think modding itself has changed, people have less time nowadays and - as the recent "paid mods" debacle proved, money is the motivator nowadays - so there's less grand mods and more quick "filters" or nude models.
The Infinity Engine-esque RPG Sword Coast Legends, as we mentioned in our June hands-on with its DM toolset, was supposed to come out on September 8. Today, however, developers n-Space and Digital Extremes have said that they're not quite going to make that date. But the extra wait will be brief: Sword Coast Legends is now slated to come out on September 29.
"Our fans deserve nothing less than whatever it takes on our part to deliver the compelling roleplaying dynamic of Dungeons & Dragons tabletop to the world of cooperative multiplayer video games," Sword Coast Legends Director Dan Tudge said in a statement. "If that means the game needs a few additional weeks of balancing, tuning and general polish—so be it."
On the upside, n-Space and Digital Extremes also announced that the first Sword Coast Legends DLC release, Rage of Demons, will be free for anyone who preorders the game. Rage of Demons will take players into the Underdark at the side of renowned Drow ranger Drizzt Do’Urden to do battle with demon lords who have been summoned from the Abyss. Details will be released in the future, but for now you can get a taste of what's coming from the official Dungeons & Dragons website.
