I cant find a reason for them, or all the hype around wasting time collecting them.
Trade for more to trade with, to make either roughly $0.60 cents an hour for endless auctions and work, or trade for other useless items that are 'collectibles'...Or spend hours upon hours to make badges to put on your profile that no one looks at anyway.
Are they like steams version of useless pokemon cards? collect them all! and enjoy endless hours of staring at them while they do nothing?

It's utter bullshit - like those useless Steam hats except even worse since no-one can see it unless they make an active effort. Originally, Steam was going to attach benefits and extra discounts to people with high levels (which is what badges are really used for: to increase you level by gaining XP) but Valve being Valve i.e. a shitty company that seems to have a different view of time (read: a year for them is a century for everyone else), they couldn't be assed to add anything yet that makes positive use out of the level.
tl;dr - they cards are useless and Valve are lazy money grabbing cunts.

I have no idea what to do with all the cards I have, I just try to sell them by adding a 0 at the end of whatever steam defaults to.
I never sold one that way.

237,33€ Earned...
I don't find that a bad tally for not doing much.
But yes this is what I always thought about it:
People get their pokemon on with collecting useless drab, others earn some on the side to buy games with and devs+valve have their share of the pie. So everybody 'happy' I guess.
For me it's also a minigame, figuring out how I can maximize profit at times. Usually sales are interesting times to play on the market.

Haha yeah, it's a mechanism that doesn't bother me really, since everyone is satisfied in the end. The insane card collectors have what they want, those who don't give a damn can sell 'em for money, with Gabe and the developers smiling because it's still a business.
If you're willing to sell them, the keyword is patience. There are tools to minimize the efforts since they do the idling automatically, so all you have to do is put the price and see the wallet raise..very slowly but steadily . I got several freebies too with the cards, can't complain!
