You can't. Bastard swords have a misleading description, in this game they're purely one handed weapons.

iirc bastard swords are always handled like one-handed swords. They use 2D instead of 1D though that doesnt make that much of a difference.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

The description is based on its real-life use, not in-game use. That's why it's so misleading.
There is a tweak pack which allows to change bastard swords from being one-handed to two-hander. It works with both the old and new versions of the game.
(Note: it has some tweaks that are exclusive to either classic or Enhanced tho. It's just that this particular tweak, to the bastard swords, works with every version)

Just finished the first game now, a little bit dissapointed knowing and hearing the praising that it gets. Things that were a letdown to me: story was a bit simplistic and nothing impressive (not to mention short), the interface and all about it - real pain in the ass to move shit, learn spells or the small sidebar and the lack of dungeons Sad . Also did not liked the lack of interaction with the companions. All in all would give it a 7.5-8 .

Next bg2ee which i heard is much more complex and then idee if it gets a sale til i finish bgee2 Crying or Very sad

Actually, it's BG2 that gets all the praise. Some people even tell others to skip BG1.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

BG2 should never be played without playing BG1 first.

BG1 is great for learning AD&D mechanics, where BG2 would be overwhelming for anyone that did not play first part.

I played BG2 first at the time, when I had no internet. It wasnt that difficult to grasp.

Only if you want to min/max your chars IMO. The mechanic is not that complex. You will waste some points if you have no experience with it of course, but it's not so bad. I also played BG2 first since someone gave it to me.

Same. I played BG2 first, although I had briefly dabbled with a couple of the Gold Box games that I picked up second-hand prior. Other than that, my primary exposure to D&D was this:

BG1 > BG2 easy for me.

BG1 feels less fantasy imo, its more "realistic" in its fantasy compared to BG2. BG2 is like BG1 on steroids when it comes to lore/story.

Also it felt like there was more exploring in BG1, not so cramped with content on every map, i liked that.

That said, booth games are awesome, probably my top 2 RPG, fallout 1&2 are close also.

been a while since i've played but i think a cloak of mirrors or reflection or whatever it was works really well on a good fighter. or maybe that was beholders, or both.

Haha. Its great how everyone comes up with his own solution to these fuckers.
