|
 |
D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die is an Unreal Engine 3 based Xbox One exclusive (and published by Microsoft) episodic game that was released (as a first season of 3 episodes) last year's September. It is created by Deadly Premonition's developers and director. Although designed first and foremost for the Kinect the implementation wasn't very good and everyone used the alternate traditional gamepad controls anyway.
D is a young detective who after the murder of his wife gains the power to time travel. His goal is to save his wife of course. It got decent reviews all things considered: http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/d4-dark-dreams-dont-die mostly praising the surrealness or even silliness of the game. If you are allergic to Telltale/Quantic Dream or Japanese flavored games you probably should stay away.
Now the developers showed that they have a PC build and even let people play it on PAX yet they have not confirmed they will release it and ask on twitter if people really want it.
http://www.vg247.com/2015/03/05/d4-dark-dreams-dont-die-is-coming-to-pc-rumour/
And from gaf:
Quote: | Details: PAX East Access Games booth has two laptops with a short demo of D4 (yes, playable PC D4 with M&KB) - demo ends with a splash screen that says "D4: Coming to PC?"
Swery says he is trying to make it happen.
p.s. Come by and say hi |
It also sold like shit on Xb1 so a succesful PC release is perhaps its only chance to get a 2nd Season of episodes made.

I've watched a playthrough of the first episode. As usual with these games, not my type. But holy fucking shit it's wacky and interesting, so I'm fine with watching it.

Some rough translation of Famitsu: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=161951980&postcount=288
The game is easier to play with Mouse compared to Kinect and the DLC is included. Sounds like in May they will start "bug checking", so probably it's now in alpha and it will go in beta in May. So maybe in July-August it will be ready?

Quote: | Kotaku: How come Microsoft isn’t involved with the PC version?
Swery65: The reason is very complicated. After lots of complicated meetings and e-mails, fun parties, and present exchanges, I think we all ended up at a point that we could all feel satisfied with.
The one thing I can say is I personally feel that there’s a big difference between the console market and the PC market. Compared to the console market, communities are more important to the PC market, along with communication with fans, the stances creators take toward what they’re making, and the personalities of development studios.
I think that in order to make sure D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die can really permeate in a market like that, we need to do as much footwork as possible and shorten the direct distance between us and the end users.
This is the first PC game Access Games has ever created, which also means it’s our first time selling one. We hope to use the PC version of D4 as a bridge to many other new experiences. |

Right. Someone might want to slip Microsoft that memo then, since it seems they've forgotten that.

That makes it even worse. This means that you may get a 60fps on recommended settings which are already too high for what the game provides graphically.
