meh, it's ok-ish

think civ5 in space, with 1 unit, and cut all mechanics to 1/4-th

it's not worth the money

it'd say it's worth 5-10eur

Actually, I take it back Smile

Having a blast with this, so far. It seems stale at first, but once you get playing, the game opens up a little. I Like the battlecard system, and the market where you can buy/sell stuff to get more cash for ship upgrades etc., saved my ass in one mission that did, as I had 2 ships needing repair with no money left lol.

It has bugs of course.

When I first started game, I was horrified to only be able to scroll map with arrow keys, but once I had entered battle screen, the LMB worked for scrolling map, and has worked ever since on normal planet map? So dunno what's up with that?

Exiting game results in a crash of the .exe, so will post about that in support.

Only windowed full screen, no biggie, but irritating none the less.

No 'exit' button to quit game? ESC then quit? lol

Locked @ 30 FPS, again, irritating to have that in this day and age, but I suppose an RTS don't really need much more.

All in all, good for the small amount I paid for it, and I'm sure these bugs will get fixed, someday, lol, well it is Firaxis!, and they kinda drag their heels on getting patches out Razz

Game is shallow, easy oh and 64 bit exe keeps crashing, maybe reloaded faults.
Anyway, combat is boring and annoying, half of sounds are taken from x-com another from some racing game, combat mechanics makes little sense, oh LOOK asteroids, np I can shoot straight through all of them.

Say captain, we just flanked enemy at point blank range, should we use close range plasma cannons to obliterate them, naw just use long range lasers.. how did that make past testing?

Enemy AI attacked my capital with my fleet in it, without single chance of winning.. yay?
Enemy planets get garrison ships to defend them, no extra shits appeared to defend my capital.
Capital started with lvl 5 or so orbital defence , 10 turns latter it had 0 ?

And whole game is basically, do few missions, attack enemy capital, attack next capital, one or two more and you won the game.

Just beat the game with a wonder victory....accidentally! Very Happy

Played with Purity for the mission reward bonuses, focused on researching shields, plasma cannons, and fighters. Fighters are incredibly overpowered in that you can eventually spam them, and while they don't do much damage from the get go, they are absolutely invaluable for making the enemy waste their shots (think of them as disposable shields).

By the end I had a fleet of 6 ships. 4 engine level (rank 2 research upgrade), 5 shield level (rank 4 research upgrade), 3 plasma level (rank 2 research upgrade), 3 fighter level (rank 2 research upgrade, but honestly this was kinda a waste researching).

Totally ignored building structures/cities. Sold all my food for energy to fund my fleet and used all my production on developing wonders when I could. Only structures I really built were the space lanes (forget what they're called).

Fun little game, but the AI is stupid and the game time is short (on Hard/Large/5 opponents at least).

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Why the fuck are you guys buying and playing this game? It's shallow and getting terrible reviews. If this game was released by some obscure company you wouldn't even talk about it. Only because it's sid meiers.

Unbelievable.

I liked the first one, didn't try the second. Reminded me of Car Wars / Autoduel but in the sky.

The second one is pretty much the same, just in a different part of the world and with some new objectives. Also fun to play, so...

Like them a lot as well Wink

I am wondering how this Starships compare with these Ace Patrol games gaming experience wise ?

I remember I didn't get Ace patrol at first because it looked so "cheap", and I shouldn't have done so.

i would say its a bit more complex than Ace Patrol, but i guess for some strange reason people expected Civ level of complexity for much cheaper game

Its fine if you go into it knowing that its NOT a Civ game, and take it for what it is. It actually has good game-play in there, just most of it is poorly implemented. For the cost though, its definitely worth a play through.

The release of this is also bad timing, being so close to the 'Skylines' hype, that most are gonna slate it regardless, as they have something much better to play with ATM.

I suppose if the game had cost the usual 'AAA silly money', then I could see the disgust, but I'm hoping a few patches can maybe bring it up to speed, and make it even more worth the pittance they are asking for it.
