I think it was the making-of for Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena that featured a similar insight into sound recording, stuff like stabbing watermelons or breaking a piece of wood and all that. Guess the sound tech guys over at Dice get to have even more fun since they go to a firing range and record from that although it's probably a lot of work too "translating" that shooting noise into something usable for in-game audio. (Cleaning up any background interference noise too and other stuff.)

I was talking about the restarted one (9th in the series) aka just Mortal Kombat - which is storywise pretty much modernized retelling of MK1-3.
