Not sure about rogue, but Durance you find out about if you go back to stronghold after clearing it. Leave the area and come back and talk to the throne again and it will update you about goings on.
The throne tells you about a "mad man with a flaming staff" ranting at passers by in one of the wilderness areas (can't remember which one). You go and talk to him and he joins you, he's one of the most interesting companions so far and the only priest I've found. |
What are you talking about? I found the Durance guy in Gilded Vale close to the tree where they hang people. I'm clearing the stronghold with him. |
Durance is the priest. Eder is the guy you find next to the tree at the start.

P.S.: i've hit the trap bug. When i reloaded, the trap wasn't anywhere. Also hit the inventory bug, when you dismiss an adventrurer/companion, you will lose the equipment, so remove the equipment before dismissing the dudes and the dudettes... |
That's not a bug. When you dismiss them, they keep what they had unless you take it all away first. If you bring them back on, they have their equipment with them. One other guy here said that they didn't have the equipment when they came back but that's the only report I've seen (without searching) of that. Certainly not as common as some of the other gamebreaker bugs

Eder (fighter) - Gilded Vale (you need to take a nap at the inn and talk with a dead dwarf hanging from the tree)
Durance (priest) - Magran Fork, near a burning statue
Aloth (wizard) - Gilded Vale, near teh inn
Kana Rua (chanter) -Caed Nua ( you need to clear the stronghold first) - actually, you don't. Thanx,Aquma .
Their locations are fixed.

You don't need to clear the stronghold for Kana Rua - I've met him right at the gates and cleared it with him.

Couple questions so I know how to plan ahead: Is XP divided by number of characters, meaning the larger the party the slower they level? How long is the game, and what level can one be expected to reach by the end?

Sagani - ranger. The first map after the stonghold when you travel towards the Defiance Bay, right in the middle of the map, at the crossroads.
As for the rogue - my main is a dual wielding rogue - dumbest idea i had. A marksman rogue, that's what i should have made. Still, can put traps, disarm them, find secret places, lockpick and serve as bait
My party at Raedric:
Rogue - main bait
Eder - tank build
Durance - priest - buff/heal
Aloth - wizard, crowd control, AOE
Hired adventurer - second fighter tank build.
Hired adventurer - third fighter tank build

I'll look for the Durance guy, I thought I cleared all maps untill Caed Nua. I hope it's not a bug. I guess I'll use mechanics with my monk, I don't want to hire people in the inn during my first playthrough. How important is Lore during conversations? If it's not very important, I'll just leave Lore at 3 and put points in mechanics (2 atm).

Seems like it.
My party is almost 8, and I'm about 25 hours in. Doubt I'm even halfway. I'm doing every quest and actually reading. You get a ton of XP for bounties.
12 is max level, so expect level 12 if you do everything.

I did Raedric with this party on hard.
Pistol Chanter - my character, chants for the ticking damage and invocations for damage/CC.
Eder - pure tank
Durance - (de)buffs
Aloth - AoE Damage mostly
Kana - 2h Sword, a bit of tanking, buff chants and invocations for CC.
The game is all about having a few melee characters engage enemies so they can't get to your ranged. On hard, anyway. I haven't actually tried the game on any other difficulty since the encounters were made for hard and obviously when you fight ranged characters, it's not the case.

You definitely should, he might be the most interesting companion so far IMO. Though I have all of them, only he and Eder I have gotten long conversations with, so that might change.

I like that I die at times. Makes going back to those encounters and wiping them out all that more fun. No level scaling FTW.

Btw where do I get bounty quests? Is there a limited number or they are "generated"?

You build the Warden's Whatever in the stronghold.
Doubt they're generated. You get 4 initially and I assume more when you've done those 4.

After you make a certain upgrade at the Stronghold, you will unlock them. Dunno about the number, but my guess that's a limited number, as they are hard as hell (at least on lower levels and without the proper equipment).
There is also an upgrade that will unlock quests for your recruits. That will range from trivial to legendary quests. Rewards vary between money and high grade equipment. I still have to unlock those, as there is also xp for the adventurers that are doing those quests.

I picked up Durance well before the stronghold. Standing by a burning statue. The fighter (or is he a rogue, forgot) was by the tree with the people. |
Durance wasn't at the statue for me the first time I'd visited the area, the throne told me about him first. Maybe it was because I hadn't had the dream when I first went to the area.

They are just vanity/cosmetic items, you equip them in the pet slot and the pet follows you around.

There are in the later game some useful pets if i am to believe the official guide. But most of them are just as useless as they can be.

Likewise. The game has more of a BG feeling to it than BGII, content wise.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
