war of the worlds: goliath

hah. hahahahah. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahah oh wow jeez

i will say this for it.. it has one of the most effective and well-conceived openings ever - inter-splicing mankind's development and life on earth of a family, with the Martians building their attack fleet and then its all downhill from there.. the characters are essentially hilarious caricatures (especially the leader of whatever organisation it is), and the art design is hilarious.. the 'hero' females eyes are so big i almost thought they would eat her head, and theres one character that... and im NOT joking here, i almost want to recommend people watch this film just to see it... looks like superman dressed in drag. i wish i could find a picture, it was hilarious. I know they were aiming for an atypical action female character who looked more solid than the traditional waif style, but it just came out (heh... came out...) looking like superman wearing lipstick.

3/10

oh and the action sequences are beyond retarded.

Louis Theroux - by reason of insanity - 8/10
It's really 6/10 doc. But the Moore camp taught Theroux really well. Very entertaining doc. But nothing of real substance. Just interviewing people in a place that wouldn't normally have been interviewed. But no real point for the doc. So 8/10. But compared to other docs that have a point or purpose and not just to showcase the interview skills... It lacks. But it's awesome fun to watch. Crazy psycho murderers. Creepy at times.

It's like an elongated interview for 6oclock news. They should give him plenty more work to do. It's been a year or so since his last one Sad

i never liked that guy. he always comes across as really condescending.. and he asks some absolutely idiotic questions in the effort to try to shift the discussion down a path to insult or make people look like fools... i supposed thats the way these kinds of people operate and make their shows, but still.. hes a cretin.

Back then when he was a youngin and thriving on the whole Moore camp thing his stuff was entertaining. Both thrive on steering the docs to their view, but lately (last few things) Theroux did get less entertainy and focused more on making docs that you wouldn't normally be exposed to. Inside super jail, cp peeps, all sorts of subject and topics that wouldn't normally be made for TV.

There's no informative point to them except for a guy exploring things and showing us how it is. A voyeour. But no real point to be made. which is better than steering a whole doc for some point you came up with.

Enemy - 3/10

Watched it because Jake Gyllenhaal had the lead and had the same director as Prisoners.
Starts of very slow but intriguing but it just turns into pseudo intellectual crap. You know something is wrong when you find a 25 minute video with the director on youtube to explain what a 90 minute movie actually means.

last knights

am i the only one that thinks medieval themed swords and warriors typed movies BENEFIT from brutal violence, and having mostly bloodless combat really takes away from the atmosphere these kinds of films need? because i felt this film to be seriously unsatisfying.

it wasn't slick enough to be silly fun, not brutal or serious enough to be epic.. i actually think i had more fun with that atrocious nicholas cage / anakin skywalker movie...

5/10 for being harmless, but falling wayyy shorter than it SHOULD have for all the chance it had to be really good....

My god that was a poor movie. Sad that it's being viewed as a deep movie. Half the time when they took themselves serious I thought: That's like listening to a stoner. Other half was: These kids are so daft.
Guess it was one of those movies made for the generation under me. Twas quite cringy.

Imo the movie is for people over 30 yrs old (maybe 35+) and especially for couples with kids. It's difficult to watch it if you're not in that target group.

I think you are a bit off on the numbers, I'm in that age bracket. 40'ish would be more of a realistic age if you do the math: age of the kids - that of the parents.
They emphasized too much on the brain dead kids to make that work anyway.

In this case the academy was putting too much credit on the whole gimmick that was seeing the kids from a young age till young adults. Every direction they went was done in a very minimalistic/shallow way.

Only positive thing I could say (If I had to) was Hawke's performance (But still not at the level he can be). The daughter... well it made sense after reading she was the daughter of the director... man she was atrocious.
The son: got worse with getting older and all the rest of the characters were quite mediocre. I could partially blame it on the dialogues they had to work with it... but still: couldn't see them pulling of a great performance.

dracula untold /10 this movie

Laughing Just to have an excuse for the dracula story by bram stoker, they had to create enemies that are so comically evil Laughing

Luke Evans was good though, but the movie is cliched and very cheap.

~6.8-7/10 That was a rather unusual film..But it could have been much better.... It's a pity that two leading actors and dialogues were pretty mediocre and the girl who was supposed to be .... years lacked charisma and didn't seem older or wiser than the actress playing her.

Furious 7
5.5/10

Plot: basically hacker plot from die hard 4... stupid
Action is pretty good, quite enjoyable, somewhat unbelievable, but you get the feeling they are doing it intentionally just for shock and entertainment value.

But the ending before the real ending.. So much cheese, so cringe-worthy.
Basically movie flat lined in the end.

is could you pick which film walkers face was pulled from during sequences filmed after his death, and which faces were flat out cgi. no one cares about the story or the action, we're all here for the creepy artificial zombie walker.

i did appreciate your morbid flatline joke at the end though.

I think only the end credits had been edited in. Rest were actually Paul Walkers brothers (there were scenes where he would only show his back to the camera, probably bc of that)

This film could have been much better with decent acting. If you like good indie vampire movies watch A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night.

very unbelievable. we've all heard the stories. some people lived through them, some didn't... it's a point of view of some that went through hell in this cult. It's an OK doc. Nothing we haven't heard before, but some of the things must have been fabricated to paint a darker picture because if not... then that's some really fucked up shit going on there.

i watched the pirates... i fucking laughed. i laughed hard. that movie was hilariously silly, my cheeks hurt.

i watched dark haul. it was dumb. i did not laugh at all.

i watched all superheroes must die. it was a good concept executed badly... some really cool potential ruined by insultingly, idiotically poor decisions... and again, i did not laugh at all.

i watched what we do in the shadows, and i chuckled a few times. my cheeks did not hurt, but it was somewhat amusing and always kinda weird seeing my city in a film... so take THAT all those who still believe its 2005 and we still hadn't heard of electricity yet... i clearly saw lightbulbs in the film, so suck it. a decent film, worth seeing, but not really worth keeping around.

i watched blood and bone, and now i know what i want to be when i grow up. i want to be michael jai white.
