btw they didnt changed the souls required to lvl up. i think first time around you just spend more souls on items, upgrades or simply died more times and just lost the souls to teh abyss

Anyone knows if the Alonne Captain Armor is still dropped from the enemies in iron keep?
I've been killing them while wearing the gold coveatus ring and the jester's hat and the prisoner's tatters but didnt get any of the 2 pieces.

Yes, you're just unlucky. Happens. I couldn't get the Mad Warrior's gloves before he stopped respawning either. Not sure if I should bother using an asthetic or just wait for NG+.

@ lolozaur its supposed to be like that until you find a certain item,
@ m3th0d2008 there are 5 more mad warriors in brume tower you can farm their right next to a bonfire too.

@method: Seriously, never ever did I play against someone in DS that doesn't take damage.
Just last week I started re-playing DS1. I didn't advance very far because I had no time and today I was at the bonfire in undead burg and some guy invaded me. He lagged quite bad, actually so bad that my char lagged too... but luckily he was a big noob and I was able to give him some crits with my dagger by simply anticipating his movement and swining into the air

The cases of taking "no damage" can be certainly attributed to lag. Sometimes you hit his model, but his lagging self is somewhere else.
Yesterday, I fought someone with rapier in Belfry (they are annoying), and he stabbed air a meter to my right, and I have died. I still think it's mostly lag.

With the lag it will catch up eventually. But there are trainers which give you state of the art godmode.

AFAIK Mad Warrior never stops respawning, you don't need a bonfire ascetic to farm him. Sometimes he just won't appear even for 40 minutes straight, but he will come eventually. There is some empirical evidence that clearing the area improves his chances of reappearing; also try zooming back to Majula then back to Belfry Sol once in a while. I already killed him 20 times, and he is still appearing; his drop rate is abysmal though: with jester cap, serpent gold ring+1, prisoner's tatters, and he only dropped one katana so far. I'll try to get the Symbol of Avarice from the ivory king DLC, see if it improves things.

Don't forget the watchdragon parma shield now also improves drop rate and yes he spawns infinitly in belfry sol,if you clear all the enemys below him and then use the unveil miracle next to the bonfire if it goes straight up it means he's spawned..saves you having to go look each time!

Well, I'm only missing the gloves. I had him spawned about every 5 resets before so I guess I must have been incredibly lucky? I don't think so. Seriously, I think he doesn't spawn anymore. Maybe they changed it with SotfS.
Oh and I was using the shield, covetous +1, jester head, prisoner tatters and coins yadda yadda yadda.

Is multiplayer essential to get the best out of this game, or is it fine with just SP? Don't want to spend £20 if I don't have, but will if it's a much better experience.

The strongpoint is the SP imho...

Have you done lots of pvp in dark souls 1? Yes? buy it. No? just isodemo to see what the game's about. Pvp is annoying for first timers and only becomes a major part after you learn the game and are looking for replayability. Its more like the stuff you do after you finish with your first playthrough rather than being something you want to have blended in from the beginning imo.

I've not even played DS1, and I'll probably only play this through once. It;s just I didn't want to spend hours playing it if it was much better with MP. Thanks for the info.

Uhhm start with DS1 then, its a much better game. DS2 is just more of the same but.. less, imo

I recently started replaying Dark Souls 1. If you don't care for MP much play DS 1. It's far superior in combat, level design, atmosphere & boss fight variety.
Oh and you'll want to replay it several times, even if it is only SP
