Yeah the downloader's a real piece of crap, very shoddy coding. Just make sure you're downloading the unencrypted RSC files (and not the Steam version ones) and a torrent will work just fine. If you've already downloaded the files partially, you can even continue from that if you point the torrent to the game folder instead of downloading everything all over again.
