Well that's not really true because many people are anti-united and especially anti-ferdinand and with his recent form he's obviously gonna come out the loser. He's shit in terms of England and how good every1 else seems to think he is but he's better than a lot.... just not ferdinand or campbell.

I disagree with you, but my point isn't that you're wrong. It's that it's impossible to prove either way unless you can say for sure that another defender wouldn't have made the same mistake in the same situation, which you can't. Maybe John Terry would get beaten for pace by Ronaldo and conceed a goal, but who's to say that in that hyperthetical game, playing Rio, he would have managed to stop that threat, but then conceed a goal because of his weakness, concentration or whatever.

One thing that can't be disputed is that the're all different, so where one manager might deem bravery his most important attribute, another may put pace/passing top of the tree. One thing that really hits home when you hear managers and players talk about the game is that they see a shit load that I miss.

The fact that Makelele compensates for another players weakness doesn't dispute that fact that the mix, and the team works, and another centre back without John Terrys communication and leadership, but with pace may weaken the side.

Who's to say that Englands problem may be the lack of a decent holding midfielder. Makelele would certainly walk into the first 11.

No i'm saying that john terry at chelsea is surrounded by pace and skill. At england although they tried to play ledley in the holding role it's different to how chelsea play. Playing like this leaves him vulnerable but wont be seen until it happens in a more obvious situation Although last night I saw it plainly. He left crespo alone and instead of attacking the ball at the near post or at least trying to put him and the others under pressure he went straight to the goal line. This reeked of the game against united when his pitiful jump couldn't even reach fletchers header. I also think that him standin on the goal line like that probably hindered robinson more because he was unsure what he was going to do.

So Chelsea are carrying John Terry? You look at what he lacks, and completely refuse to see what he brings to the table above other players in his position.

Are you claiming that every facet of John Terrys game is worse than both Rio and Sol?

to put it bluntly: yes.

Rio and campbell both compliment how the other plays but with terry I feel less safe watching England.
I'm sure there are some attributes to terry that are better but I don't see how pace, heading, first touch, leadership, final touch, ability to read the game blah blah are better than campbell and rio overall. You might say he's a good leader... well if so why the fuck did the situation last night occur? It's up to terry and robinson to sort the area out like that if he's so good. Also you might argue on his reading... again no. It's makelele who's the play reader for chelsea and rio is much quicker to react.

Then you must know that football is about averages, not specific situations. Give me a game when John Terry was playing for a team that performed as badly, and conceededas many goals, as the Rio Middlesbrough game. You give me 2 year statistics, not including injuries, that prove both Rio and Sol are more consistent than John Terry. Defence isn't about ability it's about not making mistakes. A great defender doesn't get noticed .

A great defender doesn't get noticed ..... since when?!

And like i said.... rio is goin through a bad patch but sol is a perfect performer so far. Rio and sol both have worse team mates and terry's role in chelsea is good for him but we're talking about England who don't possess the same style of players nor play the same system which makes him ineffective when England leave themselves open for a 4 on 3 attack quite often and pace is required.

It's a cliche. If you never mention a defenders name during a game it means he's played well.

So picking John Terry ahead of Rio, at the peak of his game, and Sol isn't debatable, at least not to someone with your 'special' perception.

You've stated that his game is unanimously weaker, and given that fact, any professional that, given the choice of all three, picks John Terry as one of the two knows less and sees less within a football match, than you.

we'll see by the world cup. I'll be pretty surpsied if terry does get the nod unless rio / campbell are injured / have a really bad season.
