I should get my copy tomorrow or Monday, I'll see how it goes on my i5-2500K and GeForce 660 @ 1050p. Had to buy a new drive just to have enough space for the damn game.

It's a strange card I agree, dipping like mad in games like these but performing awezOMG in 2-3 years old games... and Alien:Isolation! 60fps mostly with everything maxed.

Haha yeah, but then you mention a title that's actually properly optimized Razz

damn, the game runs awesome. studied the nvidia guide a bit to see what's what, and took a few min to set up a very high textures config for a gtx 660. goes up to 2.3gb VRAM usage according to the game, but i've spent over an hour now driving the bike super fast across the map, and not a single stutter or hitch.

max payne 3 optimizations confirmed. It seems all those little poeple and cars in the distance were real. Cool Face

HOWEVER! There is some kind of memory leak or something, after playing for nearly an hour the game will start randomly hitching, audio crackles for an instant, and framerate drops 5-10 points. Quitting/reloading clears it right up. Shame as it's the only thing marring an otherwise amazing experience.

I had the same issue (I bitched about it on pg. 5 I think). Anyway, I think I finally resolve it by moving my windows page file (system managed size) from drive C: ( my OS drive, as well as where GTA V is installed) to another internal storage drive (drive is from like 2007 but still going strong, knock on wood). After doing so the hitching has become incredibly minimal, and I only notice it after about 5 or 6 hours in instead of 1 or 2.

I think it has something to do with the I/O usage on one drive being incredibly high, with GTA V trying to load itself, as well as load the page file etc.

I'm not a software engineer, but I've noticed that if I open resource monitor that the "Commit" column for GTA V starts at around 2.5 GB, while the "Working" (actual physical RAM used) is at around 2.2-2.3GB. After several hours playing, the "Commit" column is often at 4 GB or higher. Doesn't this mean that the page file is just being progressively engorged, a.k.a. memory leak?

Someone please enlighten me, because the Steam and Rockstar forums are just a cesspool of bullshit and misinformation.

It's okay mate, thanks for the info but I found out what was causing it for me; having Chrome open. I've repeated and retested this a dozen times and the outcome is always the same ... if Chrome is open the game will hitch/stutter after a short duration of play, if Chrome is *not* open, the game plays flawlessly for hours upon hours.

Same for every browser, and especially so the steam one... shift tabbing back to the game before closing the browser and the game will crash in a while. When you alt tab after using the steam overlay you have to use the task manager to get back in the game otherwise you can't get it back up again.

Quite funky, but for the rest I haven't experienced any other bugs or crashes so far.

Got good performance in Online too ( similar, just slightly worse ), so can't complain Everything Went Better Than Expected

So, since I've now had some time to play around with the game and test it out I have to say that the performance is better than what I'd expect it to be.
I've had a couple of crashes and hardlocks but those were very likely caused by an unstable OC and after I corrected it there were no more crashes.

What's your PC specs? What drivers are you using? Did you check msi afterburner and vram usage, does it by some miracle goes over 1.5gb?

According to this video it barely goes beyond 1.5gb on GTX 660 2gb (same on my 660 ti):

I'm desperately trying to get rid of stuttering and it's impossible to eliminate it on my PC:

CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-3570K @ 4.2Ghz & CM Hyper 612 PWM
MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V PRO
RAM: 2 * 4GB DDR3 Kingston Hyperx Genesis, PC1600
VGA: MSI GTX660Ti PE OC Edition
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 250gb 7200.10 Sata II
Case: Cooler Master 690 II Basic / SeaSonic M12II SS-650A
MON: Samsung 223bw (1680*1050)

From the lowest possible to the highest settings, i will always get stuttering/freezing sooner or later. This guy explains it very well:

http://www.reddit.com/r/GrandTheftAutoV_PC/comments/33lbnh/what_ive_tried_to_stop_stuttering_memory_leak/?sort=new

After 11 days and 12 pages of people crying in this thread, not a single response from R*!

https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/communities/public/questions/203473047-GTA-V-PC-Stutter-Issue?page=12

I've managed to "fix" AC: Unity, Watch_Dogs and a couple of more problematic games, but this one, NO WAY! Even GTA IV runs better.

Let me quote this guy:

Quote:
We should compile a list of things to do in GTA V that doesn't use a car or causes stuttering until this hopefully gets fixed.

-Sightseeing. -Playing catch with Chop. -Staying in one location taking out cops without moving.

That's my GTAV experience. Laughing

You guys know if there's any guide on how to optimize the settings for every rig?

I got i5-3470 with GTX 660 and 16GB of RAM yet the system can only handle high textures with no AA, medium shadows and DirectX 10.1. 1920X1200.

If you got any tips they would be much appreciated!

Thank you. We have similar PC setups except that ssd of yours.
Can ssd make that much difference? It's a single partition (do you even split an ssd lol, i'm not really into it), right? Game is installed on C:\?

My poor old 250gb HDD has 3 partitions and the game is installed on D:\ drive. I never install games on C:\(OS) drive. For all this years never had a issue with games installed on D:/ drive, why is GTAV acting like that only R* knows. Smile

yeah, i keep the OS and game installs on the SSD and its a single partition. I've only had one windows 7 reinstall since day 1 of RTM, so I have no problems with having it as an OS +games drive.

Haven't installed a game on a mechanical drive since 2013. I use mechanical drives for storage only.

I guess during vram flushing the HDD gets used, but if you are getting continual stuttering, probably other causes in play as well.

It seems that rockstar has checks in place to make sure all gpu's with "crippled" .5gb vram don't even use it. I would bet the gtx 970 never goes above 3.5gb usage as well.

game works great, no errors. still there is one thing i noticed.
as soon as i tab out on the desktop and for example type something in skype or chrome, the typing gets delayed.
didn't noticed keyboard input lag ingame but why is it when i'm tabbing out on the desktop? whats wrong?

Here's my lesser rig.

i5 2500K @ stock
Gigabyte 660 with factory oc
8GB 1600mhz ddr3
Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB
Samsung 226BW

When I first played there was some hitching here and there, I put it off, updated nvidia drivers, checked some settings and ended up with something similar to Drowning_witch but I kept within the vram warning.
Very high textures look amazing and the game was running fine, I saw a bit of hitching once in a couple of hours but it only lasted for a second or two.

That gives a good rundown of the video options and what most affects performance, it has pictures too so you can see the difference, it's what convinced me that I needed very high textures turned on.

The game is clearly stuttering and lagging and the game displays 45+ fps.

This is bullshit. The game runs like shit and plays like shit.

Dark Souls 1 was locked at 30 fps and it didnt as feel laggy or stuttering as GTAV at 60fps.

is this some kind of micro stuttering?
i had this... and also in fifa. so i did the same thing i did with fifa.
turn off vsync ingame. close game and go to nvidia control panel.
3d settings > gta5.exe > vertical sync ON > threaded optimizing OFF > tripple buffer OFF > energy mode > full power mode
(hopy everything is spelled right cause i don't got the english nvidia center Smile )

i did this and this was the only way for me to fix the microstuttering. even though there were other fixes with the nvidia control panel... only this options helped to get solid 60 fps without microstuttering.

good luck hairy man. if it does not work don't be sad! titan x was worth it atleast your pcars videos look better now and doesn't stutter anymore
