Can anyone tell me. If I buy the boxed version, can I just download the game or do I still need to use the DVD's? Because that's just a pain in the ass to be honest.

You can just download the 60GB unlocked files and then enter your legit key to authenticate and update whenever it needs. |
Cool, thanks.
Since there are no more copies on Nuuvem and I can't find it anywhere else cheap I was thinking of buying the boxed version because it's cheaper than the places I've found it at. o.O
By the way, got the filename for that?

Did you have solid 60 fps at the factory, I think, where you had to save Franklin's homie? Lots of grass, bushes and trees and even with grass on very high fps dropped to 45-50.

So, anyone completed the game with 3dm v2?
Without using any silly workarounds to skip crashes, like not shooting, inhaling pixie dust and any other crap?

Why don't you guys run the benchmark with an accurate description of settings so there's at least comparability and objectivity involved. I'm getting about 40-50fps in most passes in the benchmark, with a couple in the 30's. Everything maxed out as far as it goes at 1080p.
I have to run at 1080p 2xMSAA with some settings like soft shadows, grass and high resolution shadows toned down to manage a constant 60fps at every point in the game. The golf course especially seems to hit my GPU hard.

The two main things are aliasing and shimmering, aliasing is the "jaggies" you see on every 3D polygon model and AA in this game isn't clearing it out very well, FXAA is cheap but a bit blurry and MSAA under D3D10 and later is pretty expensive and has very varied results depending on if it's the actual 3D mesh that is aliased or if it's specular or shader aliasing which is really hard to effectively eliminate.
TXAA solves a lot of this if you have a Nvidia GPU though like FXAA and others such as MLAA or SMAA there is a slight blur effect though unlike those shader AA modes TXAA does include actual MSAA so it's pretty effective though it can be costly in newer games if you use the full 4x mode.
AMD and Nvidia also have other MSAA tweaks, I'm using Edge Detect and Enhanced MSAA or "EQAA" as it's also called but Edge Detect requires 4x MSAA or higher and then renders it similar to 12x and 24x MSAA respectively at 4x and 8x but the performance hit is pretty extreme even in older games and together with adaptive AA for transparent objects and other models with alpha transparency such as power lines and the like it further affects framerate and also needs more VRAM which is already nearly fully used up with my current settings.
Alternatively you can downsample, Nvidia works best at the moment and their recent driver implementation "DSR" really helps but you do render the game at up to 4x the screen resolution so there's a massive performance hit so for this game you'd want SLI if you want above 30 FPS and even then you might have to reduce the settings depending on VRAM usage and more demanding scenes.
For AMD there's "VSR" but it's using what AMD refers to as a hardware scaler in the GPU itself and for most of their current GPU lineup it's limited to 2560x1400 or 2560x1600 depending on if you use a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio which from 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 isn't a huge step up so the results aren't as impressive.
(The R9 285 using GCN 1.2 is the only GPU that can currently use full "4K" downsampling or 3840x2160 alternatively 3840x2400)
Dowsampling further affects texture clarity so it can result in some pretty impressive screenshots even from older games which is why you usually see it used for marketing shots in most newer games.
(UE4 for example offers in-built tools for up to 8x or so the current resolution and other tweaks to improve image quality and IDTech5 offers up to 64x software MSAA for it's screenshot command which produces stunning looking screenshots.)
EDIT: Oh and yeah shader effects like the subtle chromatic aberration color shift which can't be turned off in the release version and Rockstar can likely modify LOD and such for shadow detail and other tweaks such as population density and adjustable depth of field.
(Much of which can actually be used with the PC versions improved editor - separate from the phone screenshot capture feature. - but I have not tried it myself yet.)
Oh and NeoGaf's screenshot thread has a couple of really good screenshots from GTA V using downsampling and the editor.

Oh...kay... I was playing the game just fine when it suddenly crashed playing a mission as Franklin, when I loaded it back up - I get the activation error.

This is on the 3DM version which hasn't given me any troubles so far.

Apparently you need to set your computer date back to yesterday according to the Russian forum.

I guess Rockstar weren't kidding with their smallprint stating "internet connection required for periodic entitlement checking" -- they really do have a check that forces you to be online every so often.
That's low.
Thanks for the tips guys, I'm not keen on rolling back system date but I guess there's no alternative right now.

Seems like there is some kind of timeout for RGSC offline mode - and DM probably forgot to deal with it or didnt even knew it was there
-> it probably is that "periodic entitlement verification"
