On second thought, this will likely cause some hilarious clusterfucks.
Guy has ZOMBIE PWNERER SWORD on his free mod.
Fella takes the ZOMBIE PWNERER SWORD and adds it to his OMGZ WEAPON PACK paid mod on steam and...?
Bring it on

i'm stockpiled with 300+ mods, fuck you steam.
before someone say something about my comment, i dont have anything against modders that want some money for their work, but getting raped by bethesda and steam for only 25% of revenue price i am.
also, 1 weapon for 1€... immersive armors mod contain like 100 piece of reworked armor and new; what's gonna cost? 100€?

Weird move by Valve, forcing it on people... why not set up a system that encourages donations so the gamer can choose if they want to support it, like a tip jar, you know? If someone wants to throw a buck in it for a good quality mod, he will. Forcing it and taking ridiculous 75% in the process is just greedy and destroys the rather positive opinion i had about Valve.

oh please, if you still had a high opinion of valve before this, i doubt this move will ultimately change your opinion much. in a couple of months you'll have forgotten about this and completely be back on the VALVE IZ ORRSUMM bandwagon again. Valve has been a ruthless thoughtless shitbag company for a while now.

Can't wait to pay 5 dollars on a mod that won't get updated in a few months!

So what about mods that need other mods to work... what then? Just empty out your wallet and post 75% to valve?
The whole scenario is just madness.... How are the Valve stepford wives (gaming journalists) going to put a positive spin on this I wonder...

Already multiple mods that require other mods to even work on there. A few that even use assets from other modders.
Pretty shady.

LOL!!
No wonder people have no trust is gaming journalism. Valve is urinating on us and PC Gamer is telling us it is rain. I wonder how much Valve pay Future plc. for this propaganda. I bet it is a substantial amount |
The VAST majority of gamejournos defend everything related to big publishers/devs no matter what. No surprise there.

It's fucking pathetic. This is nothing but DLC and anyone saying otherwise is a goddamn tool -- and PCG shilling as hard they can shill doesn't make it any better.

It's a sword and a piece of armour.
£2.25.
Apparently "horse armour" was the most evil thing any gaming company has ever done to its fans .. but if a MODDER does it, and Valve takes 75%, it's the best thing ever?

Valve takes 30% for most content on Steam(all, as far as I'm aware). I imagine it's the same here.
There's a reason there's a Bethblog post about how happy Bethesda is about how this will "help modders".

I'm saying that I imagine it's 30% Valve, 45% Zenimax/Bethesda and 25% modders.
Besides it being awful in the first place, it should obviously be more like 15% Valve, 15% dev/publisher and 70% modder.

This is puzzling... mods are usually just texture/model changes, which are easily dropped into the appropriate folders.
How can this sort of DL... I mean, mod be protected? I'm failing to see the point here, other than another Valve opening for making cash from the poorly educated.
Of course, this is probably more like a secret trial - if successful, Valve will add some new SDK tools to allow paid Mods to be protected/encrypted within future game releases, so they can't easily be shared.
This is literally free money to Valve and the publisher for zero work.
It's disgraceful.

Jesus christ on a stick, this is a downright terrible decision, there isn't a better way to put it. It's not even because of the idea per se, it's because the Gabesystem hasn't solid grounds to sustain this whole thing without making it collapse, it will be instantly abused and 'talent' not recognized anyway (if that was the plan initially, along with ripping off both the modders and the fans, two birds with one stone).

I dont mind them asking for donations or anything for their hard work.
What bothers me they only get 25%.
I know its a safe way for them to get a bit of cash as Valve is protecting them against legal actions (kinda).
Just dont upload your stuff onto steamworkshop thing and put a donation button on nexusmods or whatever.
