postFX on high, ambient occlusion is broken
set postFX to ultra, ambient occlusion works
set postFX back to high, ambient occlusion still works
wut
although I managed to make ambient occlusion work, it looks horrendous. You can clearly see the 20m (or so) radius while driving because for example grass is darker within. The weird rectangle-bug around the character is related to this too.

Most likely that lower post effects setting is lowering the precision of the shader. On ultra and very high, the ambient occlusion improves the quality, but if it creates darker halos, you should disable it.
TBH R* have been lucky to get away with their business plan of releasing this game for PC as late as possible, to maximise potential profits, as it DOES have bugs and it IS broken in places.
It's saving grace is the fact the game engine, on the whole, is very well done, it is smooth and detailed, and the gameplay is generally fun.
However, lets be totally honest here, it DOES have some crap textures, it's console roots are obvious, it's an utterly HUGE size for the game it is (exactly WHAT is taking up that 60+Gb of space?) and it is a little dated now.
I enjoyed the game of course, but is this the digital second coming of Christ? No, not at all, it's another GTA game, which is very good.
I'm still utterly against their business practices - we should have been enjoying this game back when it was released on next-gen (hurr hurr) consoles, not years later.

So far I always thought getting rid of cops is too easy in this. Unless you got more than 3 stars, at least. Only had more stars once, when it was my objective to distract the cops for a few minutes.
I saw one stood next to his bike on the side of the road, I'm sure he was checking for speeders lol
The fact that the open world is executed so well actually makes it worse somewhat. You can see the potential there but it's just not utilized to the extent you expect. It's just another GTA story - well-acted and funny but nothing special and not as enjoyable as vice city. The gameplay of the missions is still the same shit with minor attempts at variation AND it poses 0 challenge.
I'm not saying it's bad - on the contraty it is good - just not as good as it could be.
This is exactly what I felt when I played it on PS3. Same GTA in a different world.

I'm sure I've seen this mentioned, but I have no idea what page it was on.On the first heist mission where Franklin gases the jewellery store then the jewels are stolen, you go outside, get on motorbike, when I go to aim a weapon or fire the game crashes. What was the fix for this?im on crack 4 update 3

There is no fix, just don't aim on the bike during your getaway on this mission. In subsequent missions; DON'T AIM GRENADES. Just equip a grenade, then switch to a gun and aim, then press G to quick-throw the grenade. If you aim>throw a grenade on foot, then get into a car and try to aim a gun, you'll crash.

Start the game with that "Landing screen" turned on under options
Interesting, because actually PSN account didn't work for me.
I have the correct PS3 achievment on my RSC profil but no joy to unlock bonus content.

yep, with that I agree. its still just start mission, watch cutscene, follow the GPS.
in that aspect, the series didn't evolve much since gta 3.
All of the improvements come from the engine and open world evolution, which makes it so that the same formula, just inserted within the new code, feels better.
But more could be done to further improve the mission formula, that much is sure.
Yeah that's possibly my only "issue" with the game at the moment. The fact that it's very formulaic, and rarely proposes something genuinely mind-blowing or really challenging (sometimes I feel like a terminator with the insta-headshots, it's almost unfair - and no, I won't be playing this with a gamepad to make it harder ).
Though not reinventing any wheels isn't too important, as long as you do what you have to do with quality. And that's what counts here, with the proper physics being the #1 reason why it feels so satisfying (unlike other GTA clones around, with dogs chasing their one-button-tails ), along with a world that really feels living. Story-wise it's perhaps a bit inconsistent, but thus far it hasn't made me facepalm so that's positive too.
