Null Operator is a 6-degrees-of-freedom procedural action stealth roguelike for PC and VR. Or with less jargon and more wut, it’s kind of like if Descent and Binding of Isaac had a bastard hate-child, then raised it on 80s video art and mescaline.
Seriously, am I the only one that can't understand why "procedurally generated" is still regarded as a feature rather than as a defect? I fail to grasp how saying "hey guys, we couldn't be arsed to actually DESIGN levels and enemy encounters, so we're just going to have a random number generator cobble them together from scratch" can possibly be seen as a good thing.
But I don't see it as a big issue with this game particular, since it is pretty simplistic (unlike roguelike platformer/exploration where autogeneration simply kills all the fun), it is mostly about atmosphere and aesthetics.
I like procedural generation. And these guys seem to have a good eye for aesthetics, unlike many other hipster devs out there. Brownish or not, it looks elegant and good.
