So they removed the retarded bloom and called it a "big" visual upgrade?
They also added some new textures, but i don't see why they're better.

Mostly just slightly nicer lighting (though in the first GIF comparison, I actually prefer the original.. the new one looks a bit meh) with a few geometry/texture improvements and bloom-reduction, yep.

Sabin's link has more examples.
The lighting is much better and natural and several props have been redone. The mod was already of high quality so the change is not as drastic as in say Dear Esther or Stalney Parable but you can tell that now the look is of professional grade while before it was more shall I say hobbyist.

the update has been checked by machine, so i'm pretty sure its fine.
there's no crack required as the changes are all in non exe files.

It will be interesting to see how they can squeeze every last drop of juice out of the current engine, since the default Black Mesa already looks incredibly good for me (I usually dislike exaggerated post-processing effects and prefer clean visuals instead, so that was right on the money).

Just completed the early access version for a healthy new dose of half-life nostalgia.
It was definitely improved a lot in most departments. Gameplay, graphics, performance, sound effects, and overall polish are all there.
Unfortunately, the AI needs a lot of work. Vorts are especially dumb and unresponsive, unless they are facing you directly. i've stood next to them at a 30 degree angle, and they just stood there. Alient grunts are not that great either. As soon as you are out of their view range, they seem to not care about you.
Marines are also a bit dumb. you can definitely see the hl 2 combine movement in them. their leg movement is a dead giveway. Dunno how much can be done within the source engine to mask this.
But overall, much love has been put into this, and after jumping in the portal, I wanted xen right away
The attention to detail is astounding. Many scenes recreated in a purist style, while other changed to reflect the fact that the older version were such due to tech limitations.
Basically, if you love Black Mesa as a location, you will play this with a constant boner.
It was nice being back in 1998, even if just for 3 days

I wonder if the AI getting such an overhaul towards the green pearish side could mean that the game is going to be released on consoles too. I think it will happen, as soon as PC users have finished financing the beta-testing as usual. That's the routine these days

Not sure what they've changed, but one of the biggest complains with the marines in the mod version was that they were basically aimbots.
Marines in the original HL were nowhere near as accurate.

One of the biggest complains of the mod version, really. The difficulty is much more faithful now.

their accuracy is more realistic now, its just that they
a) often stop shooting and looking for you, and even stand in place
b) the player mp5 has been buffed insanely, allowing you to kill them from huge distances
Overall, AI is bugged and feels very much like a beta due to this, especially vortigaunt AI. Its pretty much the only part that the mod does better than the EA version.

I will buy this but I'm going to hold off until it's complete as I would be too tempted to play through it again right away. I don't think I have a third play through in me so it's the waiting game.
