They should cripple the performance even more with the next patch. There are still fanboys who are on the fence for buying a titan. Troll Dad

It would seem so, one of the major ultra settings is indeed the hair effects and the physics are tied to it, its heavy on the computing, so it will drop frames by a lot.

I remember when enabling tress fx on tomb raider it dropped like 20 fps and on alice madness returns..not worth it, looks great sure, but not worth 20 fps or whatever it is on the witcher.

Yay for ruined PC game due to consoles... happy days.

Any game that cannot run at 60fps on a 970 with reasonable graphical fidelity is automatically shit as far as I'm concerned.

You're right, I apologise. I think most of us agree with you at this point.. we're hoping for and expecting a fantastic game, we're just pissed at the lies and false advertising.

nVidia already have two separate ways of distinguishing visuals and performance;

"Ultra" and then "Ultra + HairWorks"

http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-is-your-system-ready

For Ultra+HairWorks you need a stupidly high-end system, a 980 recommended for 1080p and a Titan-X or SLi'd 970 for anything higher.

@Russ80: PCGames owns PCGamesHardware. They mostly share the same screenshots and news as well. No matter what CD Project CLAIMS to have worked on, the result of this patch is piss poor. Different time of day is a good excuse for you to claim that there were NO downgrades, but then they release screenshots post-patch with different time of day which would explain a bit less of fog and you go instantaneously "See, more view distance"

Actually with what you've seen so far, how is everyone still feeling confident that the game(play) is going to be good or fantastic?

I'm a bit worried after seeing some streams and videos (never long, since I want the spoiling to the minimum). Writing/dialogues feel like they dropped in quality, and the combat looks rather easy so far.

Now I know I can't be certain, in rpg's some quests/dialogues are worse than others and seeing my limited viewing I could have been unlucky enough to seen the bad ones (non was main stuff) and with the fighting a lot of times I hear people ask what difficulty they are playing so could be the case of them playing it on the lowest.

Still it has put some concern in my mind. Wondering if anyone experienced that or the opposite.

Edit: and fuck that unoptimized shit again. It's a 970 ffs

From Nvidias site: http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-is-your-system-ready

Quote:
Though not a selectable or configurable setting, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt also features NVIDIA PhysX, which adds realistic cloth and destruction effects throughout the game. Powered by the CPU and available on all platforms, these effects make the world feel more alive and dynamic, with cloth blowing the in the wind and objects exploding realistically. On PC, these effects run at a higher detail level and with additional particles that further increase their fidelity and realism.

HBAO+ doesn't seem to be taxing at all, but I'd rather have gameworks and 60fps, but I guess that won't be possible :/

@Sabin: At 1080p Ultra the 6950 is at 10.9FPS Laughing I'm not sure if this game really looks 5 times better than Skyrim, because I remember having 50+ fps all the time Laughing

Oh and that's not confirmed 60 either. Even PCGH say "good framerates" on GTX980 and their benchmark suites state "good" is 40+

*sigh*

I guess I'm glad I've got access to Rebel Galaxy for now then.

As I said my friend, it's another Witcher 2 scenario. People's memories are hilariously selective regarding Witcher 2 and everyone reckons they were playing it maxed out on 2011 hardware... and they simply weren't. At all. I had top-end 2011 hardware and it was awful when cranked up, even without Ubersampling. I had to get a SECOND GTX570 to play the game at a sustained 60.

Still no Ubersampling though.

I think Witcher 3 is going to be the same for a long while to come, those with 980s and twin 970s/980s will be the only ones that have a great experience with this. Everyone else will have to lower a lot of settings in order to sustain 60, or they'll play at the "30 is smooth for me" levels Sad

BTW @Morph: Some sites that I trust gave the game 90+ ratings.

All of them praise the game. I guess at least in that departement we'll be fine Smile

BTW Here are some of the negative points listed:
- People apparently don't care if you steal in front of them in their houses.
- Sometimes stupid AI
- Parts with CIRI very linear and easy
- Dialogues are quite linear too
- The menus aren't nice, too small text which can't be resized
- No sorting of inventory by stat
- Some slowdowns, graphical glitches & stuttering

Should unlock in about 11 hours, unfortunately that's 1 AM over here so it'll be another seven or so hours before I get up and can actually play the game. Razz

The results of the recent performance tests and graphical comparisons are unfortunately not too great but hopefully the game itself will be stellar though the visuals have obviously taken a hit and the framerate is a bit dodgy.
(And AMD likely won't be getting a driver ready for release as this is a "Gameworks" game though that's more of a issue for people using Crossfire though perhaps AMD might be able to get some general optimization in too whenever they're done trying to get the Windows 10 drivers stable enough for WHQL certification.)

Pff I had assumed all the PC master racers are sporting dual-Titans by now.

Seems like CDPR should have downgraded the game even more for your prehistoric GPUs. Very Happy

Heh well SLI could be quite helpful depending on how well the game scales but going by the PCGamesHardware.de benchmarks with the latest patch even the Titan X is just barely passing 60 FPS and that's with hairworks disabled and SSAO instead of HBAO.
(At I think it was with a screen resolution of 1920x1080)

Yeah I can normally stay up fairly long into the night too but currently I've caught some weird cold disease and it's been going up and down for the last three weeks now.
(First week was pretty tough with high fever, now it's just the constant coughing and feeling fatigued but it should pass in another week or two. Very Happy )

That's something I've also been wonder about at times, you see these "E3" demonstrations of games being showcased and then the final release version has numerous graphical cuts but still requires a hefty PC to be able to turn everything up. Very Happy
