And, to be honest... as idiotically cheesy as that line sounds, it's pretty much how I often feel about the game. Add me to those who write about just how incredible it is that so much depth and quality can exist on such a huge, huge fucking scale.
I just lately finished whole questiline with the Baron and I'm literally speechless. I just sat there, doing nothing but looking at the screen for a good 5 minutes. This rarely happens with any game whatsoever. It never happened with an open world title, and I never expected it would. The way both his character and story were built is book-worthy. And I'm not talking poor, cheap fantasy books either. A solid fantasy novel.
One thing I know for certain: I don't envy developers who'll have to follow with their RPG games after this one. |
+1. The writing is so f...ing good. The way they even intertwined secondary quests one with another or even secondary quests with primary ones. They have certainly set the bar very high for upcoming "modern" RPG (and games in general).

And also, they aren't so obssessed with making Geralt (and by extension the player) the center of world's attention. Sometimes the world just moves, wheter you like that or not. There was a couple of instances where I had these "Well shit... now that didn't really happen in other games" moments.
For example (baron questline spoiler):
Spoiler: | I agreed to help him free his wife from the Witches/Crones (don't know how they're called in english version). I met with him, but told him to wait a moment, because I needed time to prepare.
...And he replied with "Fuck you need to prepare for? I'm going, with you or without you, you can join me if you want" (loosely translated).
I was like... WTF? I really, fully expected him to just throw some usual line and stop time, waiting until I'm in the mood to continue with his questline I felt as if the game trolled me, kinda |

Yup, no crashes here for me either. Fuck sake.. I'd rather have a few crashes and 60fps max settings
I'm lv11 and I just stumbled on a cave *filled* with lv18 Nekkers. NEKKERS FFS! That was a fun battle of run in, Igni, fast-fast-fast, dodge, duck, dip, dive, dodge, fast-fast-fast, run out, run in, rinse repeat Got me a new schematic though ^_^

Really loving this. Held off pre-order until some early reviews and then bought through Hulu for £13 or whatever... almost feel guilty it's that good. Some of the voice acting cracks me up, it really is amazingly well done. Never managed to get into the previous games as much as I tried, this has managed to get me hooked immediately.

I got into a fight with a tree-like monster, lvl 16 (i was 14). Fight was challenging, but manageable, but after killing it i got swarmed by 3 WOLVES! But all of em lvl 23. Damn i had to twirl so hard using igni like a fker

Damn, I really need to finally start doing some proper quests.
But after I left the first area I'm addicted to spending hours wandering around aimlessly, exploring bushes, looting all the things, walking through villages and fighting low-level monsters just for fun. It's like living the life of the retired Witcher
I always tend to do that in open world games, the ones with believable, living environments, I just can't help it. Did the same recently in GTA for example, 15-20 initial hours of just walking around tourist_mode. In this game though it's getting even worse because the level design is simply stunning and the maps are damned huge. But yeah, definitely I need to sort my shit out and start working as a Witcher again or I'll finish the game in 2018 xD

Whereas at the same time, I was lv6 hunting lv15 Bilge/Water Hags and taking them down. It's all about preparation and the five rules of Monster Hunting;
Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge! |
What difficulty are you playing at?
On Death March, generally, anything more than 5-6 levels above you is if not impossible, still very tiring. Talking about lower levels now, I'm 12. |
I'm playing the difficulty below the highest. I'm about 1/3 through level 5 and I can normally take on multiple level 9s without too much problem. I wandered upon some dragon's cave (no dragons in there but I'll look up the exact name in a few). The first part were wraiths which are no big deal. Then a sort of trapped corridor filled with poison. So you can either choke or light it with igni, take some burn damage, and haul ass through there. Then you get to the end and there's a level 11 monster, red skull and candy-caned health bar that has consistently raped me. To the point I looted everything I could and then rage quit. My plan is to just run the fuck out of there and come back another day when I can beat his ass.
Too bad you can't put markers on the map. How could they not add that in a game with maps this big? fuckers.
This bastard. In the Dragonslayer Grotto. Ugh. I've got all kinds of blueprints for shit that I won't be able to use for a long long time.

One thing it kinda sucks is the artificial difficulty. If the mob is 5+ levels above you (red), you barely do damage to it and it hits you like a fucking truck. If he's only 4 (already green), you can stomp him like every other mob.

Just saw a easter egg for GOG I think, a quest has you looking for a book called Godfried's Omni-opening Grimoire, and the cover looks like a medieval style GOG logo.

I've been playing this on hardest difficulty, only level 5. I'm enjoying the combat immensely, I think the lower difficulties would make it less rewarding in u really have to learn there combat style and use every possible advantage to win. I pretty much cant be hit 2-3 times before dying but once you learn the monsters combat style u can dispatch groups without taking hits pretty easy.
So far drowners are my Achilles heel, multi drowners always seem to fuck me bad.

Seems leveling up increases damage you can take by huge portions or something.
On level 4 with level 9 and 10 bandit groups i was getting a lot of damage when they hit me.
Now on level 5 its a lot less and im having almost same gear.

Info for all the people with frequent Crashes:
Check if you have an overclocked GPU. If you have use a tool and clock it back to normal. My game crashed every 10 mins .. after that I was able to play for hours without any problems.

The world is absolutely gorgeous just to be in. I just walk around and mostly admire the landscape.
I am not even using the horse. (Probably also due to the fact that riding is kinda clumsy - there's some weird stuttering and there's the darn auto-center camera GTA IV style - in GTA V you can turn it off.)
Still waiting for a proper FOV tool/trick and hopefully some zoom ability to change the camera distance from Geralt. (CE changes FOV, BUT also increases camera distance from character.)
