Ubisoft's relentless exploration of the military videogame landscape has unearthed yet another potential hit for the consoles, and this time it has nothing to do with Tom Clancy. Instead, the French developer once known for its playful Rayman platform series has re-ignited the once free-recruitment PC game, America's Army, and re-imagined it for the consoles by building a meaty single-player game on a new engine, and using new mechanics, techniques, and RPG-style aspects. [SEARCH] Americas_Army_Rise_Of_A_Soldier_USA_XBOX-SPARE got released 3m 3s ago [ XBOX / SPARE | 2400.0MB in 36F ]

As a huge AA fan (probably one of the few soldier sims out there) I can't say I like this port. Granted I haven't been playing AA for months due to my stupid isp, who refuse to accknowledge they are using NAT/X.

It seems like they pretty much fucked the console version, making it more arcade like... which AA surely isn't on the pc version. Im not gonna bother downloading this, since it's only worth it if you're gonna go LIVE...

Getting a training account on AA (pc) took time and was fun too, not to mention sf training.... I doubt the system will be similar on the console. If they are smart you can only use this game if you're connecte to the LIVE serves (like the pc just not live) otherwise players can pick what ever class they want, and were back to the ultimate arcade master "cs".

KAI/XBC? Please... full of halo 2 fanboys... when 360 arrives im going LIVE only... I stopped using kai months ago.. since it's hard to find players with the really good games...unless you wanna play halo 2 (you have to pay me if you wish to watch me play halo 2 freely)

Yeah I bitched a bit...sorry but game's like this should stay on the pc.. and not get ported as a "dumbed down" game....

Just my 2 cents...

You bitched but your right Razz

Half the appeal of AA as well is that your not playing against people with the maturity of your average 7 year old, the types that call you a noob if there better than you and a cheater if your better than them.

Im gonna try it out of just out of interest but if it a CS clone or as bad as Battlefield 2 was then it'll be a quick 10-20 mins then deleted.

Im bashing it because in my opinion based on what I look for in a game and what makes a good game it didn't meet any of the criteria, overall I fealt it was a disgrace to the Battlefield franchise and the weakest game in the series. Im a huge fan of the Battlefield series (in fact own all of the originals for the series with the exception of Vietnam) so had hoped they might have did something interesting with it on the consoles. Like Nailbiter said it didn't spend more than 60 mins on my Xbox either, lets not get too off topic though and turn this thread into a rip on EA/Battlefield thread. Clearly some liked it and some didn't the views tend to be at the extreme ends of the spectrum.

To clear up that maturity comment wasn't me having a go at console gamers, it was more an observation of one of the differences between playing a game of AA online and playing a game of CS online. Both games are worlds apart as are the communitys.

@Nailbiter Im messing around on Shadow the Hedgehog so I'll try AA out later Razz

Oh sorry let me download it then.. Would take me about 20 minutes after pre...question do I want to bother?
Rolling Eyes

Im a fan of AA.. let's see who's the stupid one... you get a "dumbed" down version, not talking about gfx, but more arcade like, why would I or anyone else who's playing AA, wanna try a "rambo" version?

I love AA as it is, being a simulator...

BTW Blackhawk down sucks monkey ball for pc... and the xbox is the exact version only lesser gfx, what's the point?

And there's no point trying it, since im not gonna buy the retail for live..when I can play it on a pc (free mp).

Authenticate works under Live , you do the math....

NOTE: If they removed Auth im gonna laugh my ass off. that's like taking out the core of the game...

Worked 3 weeks on this game and this is the most boring single player ever. If you dont intend to play it online, stay away from this shit

:EDIT: I take back what i said, didnt thought the Dev team would listened to my recommandation i made but it looks like they did cause they changed a lot of things although i asked to be more like brothers in arms and have more freedom but they didnt changed that one...still pretty good so far

I tryed this out briefly tonight, have to say its a decent effort - I like the feel of the weapons, the way that you have to squeeze the right trigger when firing lightly to maintain accuracy, all of the training scenarios seem to be there plus there are a few extras and even the single player is decent. A nice aspect of the game is that your performance in missions and training earns you experience points which can be "spent" on stats like marksmanship, first aid skills etc.

The singleplayer mode by the way is better than the latest Rainbow Six game and a few other Xbox FPS games within this genre which is surprising for a game which is primarily an online game or on the other hand maybe its because the last Rainbow Six game was so bad.

Its debatable just how much its worth getting if you have a PC and access to the free version of Americas Army for console owners though if the game takes off and people actually play it for a substancial length of time (taking into account that the Xbox 360 is just round the corner and alot of people may just bail on online Xbox games in favour of the newer machine) then I think this could be alot of fun.

I didn't give the game a lengthy testing by the way have just skimmed my way through about 10 titles so probably missed out on some of the best features of this game but its easy to see that they've put alot of effort into porting this onto the console and getting the "feel" right.

Two criticisms I didn't like the redneck music they should have stuck with an instrumental score instead of actual rock groups and the way your sights aquires targets and almost tracks them, although still requiring fine adjustments to hit the target shouldn't be in this type of game or at the very least should be an adjustable feature.

BTW didn't work off a multi game disc for me and has to be set to NTSC mode or locks up Xbox.

edit....one final criticism the guys that did the animations on the wheels of vehicles should be shot mainly because there are none the wheels on the vehicles don't even turn they just remain locked whilst the vehicles slide along the ground, not enough to spoil the game but Razz

Doesn't look like it, just career mode which is effectively army training/single player campaign there is no visible system link mode. Theres Xbox Live as well obviously.

I just did the grenadier, automatic rifleman and sniper training, its really impressive how well they've worked all of the weapons into the game.
