Shiness is a Role Playing Game which will let you dive into a new adventure across Sky Islands. In a world where every land strives for power, two Wakis named Chado and Poky, traveling aboard a flying boat, accidentally land on a very dangerous island. Prepare yourself for an epic journey into a huge universe that will stay with you for a long time! With its unpredictable storylines and frenetic gameplay, Shiness is waiting for you to play the story imagined 20 years ago by our Creative Director and finally brought to life.
Quote:
A long time ago on a planet called Mahera, many species lived together in harmony. They were all linked by a spiritual energy, source of life and progress. This Energy was called the Shi.
As the civilizations were thriving, the Shi started dwindling which eventually led to a devastating war. The storm of violence unleashed by living beings became unstoppable. The green grass in the valleys was coated by ashes and the rain suddenly became a reminder of the horror suffered by the crying of a planet its own children were mistreating. The all-encompassing link the Shi was once able to maintain failed, hence causing the core of the planet - its heart - to collapse. Crackles appeared all around the globe and then, in a gigantic explosion, Mahera became a cloud of dirt and lighting bolts, enclaving each civilization to its own part of the globe:
Meteora masses of land-floating nearby from one another, forever separated both physically and spiritually.
Since those dark times, Human, Sheiks and Waki rebuilt their lives separately and life went on.
This disruption of the nature caused Mahera to split into celestial islands, called Meteoras and by then signing of the end of an era.
Chado and Poky, two friends from the Kimpao islands in the land of Wakis, will accidentally land on Adorn Island. You will play Chado (at first) and your first goal will be to find your lost friend Poky. Little will you realize, at that time, that you will be involved in a story that will reveal a far more important destiny ..
You will play Chado and your first step will be to find your friend Poky by exploring a Celestial Island that will lead you into an epic story with a lot of characters invovled.
Lot of challenges is awaiting you, get Ready for it !

Everything was going great until "learn a brand new language" - I don't want to learn a new language, I want to play a game and understand what's going on Other than that? It looks and sounds great, I'm loving the Grandia/Skies of Arcadia-esque combat system and the world exploration has the enormous scale of Xenoblade Chronicles. Definitely keeping an eye on this.
well you are right, as always the rule #1 with kickstarter is: curb your enthusiasm and do not let euphoria bite you in the ass.
happened to me too often
At least it looks like they'll make their target, 22 days to go and already at 75%? That's encouraging .. though of course it won't see a release in April next year. I really do think too many Kickstarters give far too optimistic release dates.
It's a language invented especially for the game, but we understand that some people may not like it. English dubbing is one of our stretch goals: if we reach it, you shall be able to choose to play with Maherian or English dub.
For those of you who are concerned about delivery time: we plan to release the full game in April 2015! Backers who pledged for the Poky pack & above, you’ll get the Beta access around in the winter. And finally, for those who purchased the Mantara pack & above, you’ll get the Alpha access in the fall.
yea i doubt they will build a whole new language for this game only,
most likely it will end up like kotor, using only 2 short alien language tracks for everything spoken in non-english:
As big fans of Role Playing Games, we understand the frustration that players can feel when they are getting «spoiled» the story. That is why we took the decision to create a unique scenario for the Early Access build in which the scriptwriting elements of the final game won’t be revealed. Moreover, the adventure that awaits you in the Early Access version of the game won’t be available once the final game is released. Be aware: the way you will play the Early Access game will alter the storyline of the final version of Shiness.
“We estimate that Shiness has reached 70% of its development and it corresponds to the first Beta of the title. The major features, like the quests system, the fighting mechanics or the versus mode, will be available in this Early Access in order to give you a global overview of how the game will look like in its final version.”
Focus Home Interactive will publish Shiness: The Lightning Kingdom, French studio Enigami’s Kickstarter-funded action RPG, the company announced.
According to Focus, the studio needed support to finish the game and release it in the best conditions possible in early 2016, which it will provide.
“Focus Home Interactive is working with international studios, but also naturally partners with French studios now renowned such as DontNod, Cyanide, Eugen Systems, Spiders Games, and more,” Focus Home Interactive managing partner Cedric Lagarrigue said. “Discovering and supporting new talented local studios, and helping them grow is something deeply anchored in Focus’ DNA. Enigami is one of these young and passionate French studios Focus Home Interactive would love to see emerge in this very competitive industry.”
Shiness will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux.
That's great news that it's launching early 2016 (even though it's a year past estimated date ) though I'm starting to wonder what the point of KS is these days since it seems every "indie" developer takes hundreds of thousands of dollars from backers and then announces a publisher is taking over a year later.

I think it's just for help with distribution. Majority of the publishers don't want to fund development but they are happy to help with distribution.

Maybe but this one said the studio needed support to finish and release in 2016, there's no mention of it on the KS page either. That's my problem mostly.. indie devs come to KS looking for backing, they get it, realise they can't finish because the money is running out, then a publisher gets involved. KS is a strange beast these days :\ Still, it's coming and it looks all kinds of awesome, so who cares eh?
Oh and is anyone else hearing Valkryia Chronicles in the music? It's
