Progress is being made. Just tamed my first Carno. Me and my brother alternate between us who gets to name & spend levels on the dinos we tame, so we preferably end up with a male+female combo for the 50% mate boost. It's only level one, but I'll be taking it out with me to hunt some things with my raptor every now and then. Not that we'll be able to ride it until level 50 Sad
The grind is real. Thinking of making a wooden perimeter fence around our dino area and base with those giant dino gates Very Happy . Takes a ton of wood though..

BTW, there was a polish sounding named raptor near the base at the shore .. gave him some food yesterday, but I'm not sure .. if you don't tend to your dino's for a prolonged period of time, will they actually die? Since I have to leave for the weekend.. My brother will probably keep an eye out, but that won't always be possible..

edit: checked on the raptor. Food was gone/spoiled, hunger was going down, so I gave him another stack. Seemed like a pretty slow process.
Makes me wonder .. are carnivores handicapped? Their raw meat only stacks to 20. Berries go to 100, which lasts for ages in comparison.

We left the Dino behind. I was the first to make the trip all the way to the west and I told the others to leave their stuff behind and to respawn in the new camp.

Go ahead and take the dino, it's all yours, otherwise he will probably die there all alone. Very Happy Thanks for feeding though. Very Happy

We are making some progress as well. No Carno yet and no proper base either, but tons of supplies stacked. Going to get online now, not really sure what to do next though. I need someone to place that thingy where you can create ignots. I got the engrams for the metal pick/axe and the smithery but I don't have points for the refining forge. Sad

Oh darn .. I'm in the same boat .. I can make the smithy and metal pickaxe / axe .. but my brother knows the forge. I can ask him to make a spare, gives me a chance to tour across the island on the raptor that got left behind Smile

Don't think I was near anyones camp, and I'm the only one on the server atm .. bit weird. Unless he got lost and was doing his own thing already.

My PC froze yesterday. I was at camp anyhow so I called it a night. Smile
No idea about the dildo. Laughing

The King Dodo was mine though, left him behind at the old camp and wished him all the best. Laughing

Hi, you can use my raptor at the main base freely.
My internet has been shit lately (random disconnects for up to half an hour at a time), so I haven't dared to play any games where logging out at wrong time is dangerous Razz

Well if you can deal with not that great performance ( you can get great fps if you tune down the graphics, but in my opinion the graphics in this game is really great atmosphere creator, so tuning them down would make the game worse (should not expect to play on epic though).

Of course if you don't like pvp... it's not worth it. PVE in this is pointless (well... like rust, except there are some dinos to kill and tame, no real danger at all)

And with PVP you'll obviously will get your base raided every few nights, and quite possibly also fully destroyed (though that's happening less as they've reduced the damage to buildings a lot.)

And you need friends, alone this is totally pointless.

After 7 Days to Die, this game is rather meagre and simplistic. It's far more level based than resource based which means lots and lots of grinding before you can make the good stuff. Not the right direction for a game like this I feel. I think 7 Days to Die did it a lot better + the zombie horde every X days gave you a reason to improve your defenses.

In ARK, it's like: here, dinosaurs, go have fun. Is there actually a goal to the game besides open sandbox levelling and exploration à la Minecraft?

PVP Razz

The main thing in the ark is the pvp (and for pve there are the summonable 'raid' bosses).

But there's not environment to defend against really. Dinos do not go on rampage etc.

Meh. If PVP wasn't a thing in this game, I wouldn't miss anything. I play games like this for the feeling of progression. Not just the grinding of levels, but also taming higher level dinosaurs, new kinds, etc.. PVP is counter productive in every way for me and something I will avoid at any cost (changing servers / playing local).

If the building up, or the PVP if that's your thing, is not enough.. this isn't for you at this point. But who knows what the devs will throw in eventually .. early access n all.

Yes, we have humpers on the server, just not 24/7. At times we have up to 6 online at the same time.

Going to take a brief nap Wink and I'll be back ingame for the entire evening. Smile

@mtj: I've progressed on our base. Wink It's a 5x2 foundation thus far, going for something around 5x4 before I close the walls. Didn't learn the ceiling nor ladders yet. Planing for a 2nd and 3rd level, probably with crafting all on top. (The reason why I didn't build the smithy and refinery yet)

Ok, just applied the latest patch which includes a fix for "- Fixed problem connecting to various servers, was a silly data networking mismatch".

Should be able to connect again. Smile

How come every UE4 title lately has been running like total shit?, no doubt this looks fantastic, but that is like only thing what really makes this game look better than rest "survival" games, no point if you need to play this in low settings on high end PC (a.k.a Titan X 20fps what the hell Very Happy).

Actually .. still confused. I keep getting "Server is not responding."

I tried the join link on the site, tried joining my brother who is able to connect through the friends list. But no cigar. No password prompt, nothing.. it's like it's not online, even though I can see it is through that site, steam and ark say it isn't and won't show it in the server lists..

ps. did you lose 2 raptors in the middle of nowhere? a lvl 27 and lvl 2?

That's really weird. I can see your bro online, I have no clue why you can't connect. This morning, after the update, I briefly tested it and was able to connect just fine as well.

In an earlier patch the said they would have reduced the memory usage on the server by gigs. I didn't notice any of that, though they are saying the same thing for tonights patch so maybe thatl'l help. Although the server has its ram maxed out, we used to be playing with 5+ people without issues. I don't think the problem is on the server side, at least nothing I did or change. Maybe a bug?

Those Dinos might be leftovers from me, yes.. Wink

Gah .. nevermind, I'm an idiot .. in my attempts to make my own server visible, I messed around in port settings on my modem, effectively making it not see port 7777 and 27015 Laughing
