'Grip' is a futuristic combat racing game that has competitors battle across diverse landscapes of distant worlds.
It's also inspired by the Rollcage games from 1999 and 2000

The prototype you see in the video and screenshots was developed by two people, so keep that in mind when judging the scope of the game.

We're looking for help on Kickstarter to grow our team and get this game fully developed, so please help us out if you can! The Kickstarter will launch in less than a month.

Game Features:

---INTENSE DRIVING---
Hit speeds of up to 700 km/h while driving on floors, walls and ceilings - anything you can get your tyres on to keep the hammer down. And these brutes just want to keep on going, with GRIP's specialised vehicle design and physics, flipping the car over no longer means game over.

---EXOTIC LOCATIONS---
Race on a variety of planets. From hostile, icy worlds to foreign, non-terrestrial cities, GRIP's locations will be different to anything you've raced through before. With destructible structures around each track to use against your opponents, along with a variety of possible routes, you have to use your wits as well as your skill to win.

---BADASS RIDES---
Choose from a roster of armoured cars, manufactured by different companies from around the galaxy. Each car has different specs - some swift and agile, others brutish and heavily armed. Then go on to customize your ride's appearance and performance with well-earned upgrades.

---BEEFY WEAPONS---
Use an array of power-ups and weapons, ranging from missiles and guns, to laid traps and plasma cannons. We want to create the most bombastic weapons ever seen in a game like this, and with this we welcome input from the community. You help us design them, and we'll bring them to life.

---KILLER TUNES---
Race to a thumping soundtrack including Drum 'n Bass (the music choice of Rollcage) along with Breaks, Techno and Trance. And if somehow you don't like any of those genres, the game can be customised to play any music you like from your own personal library. Your game, experienced your way.

Used to play a lot of Rollcage after school with a friend from my class when I was in primary school. I fucking love that game and I saw this announced earlier out of nowhere, pretty cool. Hope the development goes well!

Looks really good! And faithful to the original which is the most important thing. Smile
Thankfully they've chosen a proper engine, unlike the poor Carma with its ghetto in-house thingy that runs bad even on Nasa's mainframe :<

The good news is, we have a great plan for moving forward, and we're very excited with the direction we're about to take. We're hoping you'll continue to support us in our journey together.

Here's the scoop:

People have been talking about a playable demo or a playable version of GRIP for a while now - ever since we released the first trailer in July. It’s obvious people really want to get their hands on GRIP.

Well, we're going to give you that chance very soon, thanks to Steam early access.

Early access will allow us to truly focus on development, while giving the players the power to change the shape of the game as it's being made.

Community feedback will be essential in GRIP's continued development, and we like it that way. This is how we envisioned this project to play out from its inception, which is why we're so excited about this new plan.

Now, here's where your valued and continued support comes in...
We've launched a Paypal/Stripe campaign on our website

This campaign has been established in order for you to buy an early access code in advance, as well as receive some bonus goodies for being such great supporters. Funding from this campaign will go directly to developing and bug fixing the current build of GRIP into something more playable and therefore more fun.

This new build will launch on Steam no later than November 30th 2015. We don't need a lot of money to get to that milestone; we just need to pay some outstanding bills in the meantime, which is why we're asking for your support in advance of Steam early access. Your continued support will solidify the backbone of GRIP's development moving forward, and we will greatly appreciate it.

So there you have it, our new direction for GRIP.

Releasing today on early access
Quote:
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
“Our goal is to have the "final" version of GRIP by the end of 2016, though with the right support GRIP will never be final, as we hope to be adding new cars, tracks and possibly pick-ups well into 2017.

The first version out of early access would be a complete version, or in other words, our vision of the full game as it's outlined in the game design document.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
“Early access will not have many features at first. Our main goal early on, is perfecting GRIP's core gameplay. We want to make sure the game plays very, very well before we start adding the bulk of the content.

Once the vehicle physics, pick-ups, multiplayer functionality and AI are where we need them to be, we'll start to release new content that can change over time depending on feedback from the community.

The full version of GRIP will have 8 cars (4 classes), 12 tracks (4 planets), 10 pick-ups, career mode, arcade mode, arena mode (with arenas), precision mode (with a few tracks), elimination mode, multiplayer (online or local LAN and split-screen), mod tools for custom cars, and (depending on funding moving forward) a track editor so players can build their own courses.

The full game will be rich with features and content, as well as have great tools for users to make their own additions to the game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?
“Features included in the current version of GRIP are as follows:
    • 1 vehicle (12 skins)
    • 3 Game modes (Race, Arena & Playground)
    • 7 Levels (some WIP)
    • 4 Weapons (Homing missile, machine gun, mine, leader rocket)
    • 2 Power-ups (Shield, Turbo)
    • 7 Ingame music tracks
    • Play single player (against AI) or Split-screen with a friend

@monk3ybusin3ss The first version of early access only has local mp (splitscreen) buy online mp will be added later. It has 1 car with 12 skins, 3 modes and 5 or 6 tracks, some of them wip.

@Drowning_witch Runs at 45-50fps at 4k @ maxed settings with a 980Ti.

Gameplay is very solid but crashes can be pretty unforgiving, hope they can change that so as not to lose momemtum. Bots are pretty hard too I'll record some 1080/60fps videos later.
