Till now, yes.
Nothing on the lord of the wood quest bug. I go talk to the halfling on the tavern and the quest doesnt resolve or gives XP

NO!
the patch updates it from ver 1.01 to 1.06
patch_witcher3_1.01-1.06_2.0.0.33
so im guessing 1.07 will be the same
but you need to install all the DLC! |
NO.
If u are using GOG version. Thats patch_witcher3_1.01-1.05_2.0.0.32.exe, and the NFO says very clearly: "Have the previous patch installed (v1.04)" in this case.

I've been ignoring Gwent so far but now I see invitations to a tournament. Is it really just a tournament or a part of the story? If so, can you just attend when the story demands it and win, or do you need to to grind your way through Velen to win better cards to stand a chance?

It's a side quest. And you will definitely need to grind to get better cards before attempting it.

As far as I can tell, there's no farming involved, as you can only win unique cards by playing various characters. Just follow the Gwent questline, and play against any named character where the option appears in yellow text.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

You can get a card from every character that has a gwent dialogue option, I think some are random while others are unique give must have cards ESPecially if you are tired of Northern Realms and default Foltest.

These fucking gwent quests annoy the hell out of me. I loved to death card-minigames in FF8-9, for example, but gwent in W3 is the only thing -- besides shit-terrible performance and bugs galore -- I don't like in Witcher.

gwent is far better than the ff8 and ff9 card games (and i say this as a big ff fan) , there is alot more depth to it in comparison.
