not really care, but still quite curious how it develops
as they have quite good SP developer doing it and they completely scrapped the story and went full on Coop/MP randomness

from old articles
Quote: | "You're going to be in a persistent world that you can always come back to with your friends... we feel that ease of use and social nature of it was a real core thing to Dead Island. And that's where we're going to take it," he points out.
The team intends to offer an open-world adventure where players will always find new survivors, resources and challenges, with something different to do each and every time, and with a lot of choice in regards to how to tackle the objectives, without locking players in a certain area until they complete a certain mission, affording players a lot of freedom. |
www.gamereactor.eu/news/203564/Dead+Island+2+is+the+world's+smallest+MMO/
Quote: | What we did basically is we thought, ‘Oh hey, we’re making a game. Let’s write a story!’ So we wrote a linear story: beginning, end, betrayal, villain, girl, whatever, classic story… And then we realised, ‘Hey, actually our game is multiplayer’. Because we wanted to have this game where you could jump in and out seamlessly at any time. It’s kind of like the world’s smallest MMO, which is what I keep telling our people. So it has persistency, but only for yourself and what we realised, after I think a year in, is that actually doesn’t work with a linear narrative.
Because you might jump in and… imagine a classic situation where this guy who helped you all along: he is a villain – gasp – he tricked you cruelly! But if you’re passed that point, of that reveal in the game, and I join we have a dissonance. Because you say, ‘No, no, don’t trust that guy!’ and I say, ‘Why not? He’s super nice’. Oh spoiler!
So what we had to come up with is basically the most interesting creative challenge for me personally, which is to come up with a way to tell a narrative in a game that has no beginning, no end, and basically goes on forever. |

I hope it means Hellraid development has become a priority

@sabin1981
Indeed. My bad then I was sure it was Techland
@blackdochia Quote: | The IP belonged to DS, due to reasons, so Techland developed Dying Light |
Well, it worked out pretty well in the end for Techland and for us

"With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve.
After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner YAGER.
We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage."

This is unfortunate, but maybe it's for the best. If Deep Silver thought that the game was too bad to be released, then it must have been really bad
(inb4 we get a first person Escape Dead Island instead )

the sequel Fans deserve is exactly like DI1 (+riptide) but BIGGER & BETTER,not some weird frankenstein with "mmo touch" and the campaign totally missing.
I wonder who really is at fault here,DeepSilver for having a twisted vision about the future of the franchise or Yager, for bombing the basic gameplay into "How to survive"-like gameplay WITHOUT any story to make it interesting (unlikely after SpecOps but possible, who knows what DS ordered exactly). In the end,we will never know..maybe for the better.
Still,this could soooo good,if only..

not really - randomized MMOish missions are still much worse than Ubi-design

wow... yager working on the game and i had very little interest in it because it was a storyless, endless repeating quest mmo wannabe, but still.. it was yager... and now they're gone? thats... even though i had very little interest in it, thats still kinda sad..

Hopefully they finish it though - even though Dying Light was a brilliant game, I do prefer the non-parkour version of zombie fps games.

This!
I also see DL more as a dark-themed game whereby I see DI2 as the more relaxed and fun zombie slasher.
I bought DL but I'd totally prefer DI2 over it. I hope they finish it and I hope that move is going to increase in quality and not decrease in any way. But I'm sure, any 3rd studio picking this up, they won't have the indepth knowledge about the inner workings like Yager used to have, I hope it all turns out well.
