I think partial blame is also people getting more sensitive. A lot of stuff that is name calling or insults I wouldn't even classify as such. Just banter that you'd forget the next day, yet a lot is carried around for months.
At least the real nasty insults and name calling seems little to me. My perception could be off tho.

The reason for my re-formulation was rather that I wanted to keep the option open that it is indeed very well possible to intentionally give offense, you fucking moron.
I think giving offense can be more accurately termed as trying to make someone take offense.
You can attempt to offend someone by saying something that you think might offend them, but it will still be up to that person to be offended. They might not deem your actions offensive at all, and if no one is actually offended, then how were you offensive?
There is definitely a one-way direct proportionality between fucks and offense given, with the whole equation being determined by amount of fucks!
I suppose, when considering what "being offensive" means, a distinction has to be made between actions that result in someone truly being offended, and simply doing what is generally considered a vile and ugly affront to ones sensibilities, like ur mom.
