Meanwhile, while you're waiting for that to come out... have some 2GB/s M.2 SSD sticks Very Happy

http://www.pcgamer.com/samsung-sm951-m2-ssd-review/

$115 for the 128GB and yes, that's 2GB/s read speed (650MB/s write), but you'll need a top of the line motherboard with full 4 lane M.2 support. As the article mentions, most of the older boards only have 2 lanes and that means speeds are more like 750MB/s read.

Still fucking fast though Very Happy

Nice specs, probably too costly but still fun to see what the latest SSD's can do. Very Happy

And the award for Most Impossibly Pointless Device Ever goes today to EK for creating waterblocks for SSDs.

Actually those PCI-E SSD´s can run hot, some Samsung new PCI-E drives has major throttling issues on high speed write scenarios. But anyway, yes those are pointless, there was back in the days HDD blocks aswell Laughing

Yeah but not with standard use, you'd have to have truly terrible airflow in your case and be pushing drives to the absolute limit sandwiched in between two R9-290 reference boards Laughing

Also those PCIe-SSDs get mainly used in enterprise servers. Where one should expect an already optimal temperature for the servers and their environment.
So yes, pretty useless and i doub't any somewhat good administrator is going to buy this.

I find the price on the 500GB one equally interesting: $149.99

Shipping to sweden is $33 so that drops the idea of a bargain. Wink

Yeah, the 500GB one is just as amazing - however, they've put the price up on the 250GB. I guess the deal was too good, heh, price went from $63 to $79.

To see how hot this drive gets, we did a simply file copy of ~205 GB worth of ISO files. As you can see, the 950 Pro does run cooler than the SM951 by about 5-12 ºC, but it still reached a peak temperature of 98 ºC on the controller chip (the storage RAM itself does not get anywhere near as hot). This isn't doing hours of benchmarking in a closed box either - just a simple file copy on an open test bench. Doing this, the 950 Pro hit 97 ºC after only about a minute and 98 ºC after about 3 minutes compared to the SM951 which hit 100 ºC after about a minute and 110 ºC after only about three minutes.

those m2 drives are really hot huh? got an old samsung 830 and a newer 250bx from crucial, in normal use 24 and 27°C (think the difference is due to the placement in the tower) and when im copying huge files from one to another its maybe 5°C more

There is no way in hell that that SSD is gonna last for years on those temps. Yes you wont be copying files 24/7 but still after bigger installation etc usage it might get hot quite often though. I hope we get some improved versions of these or at least cooled ones. For now it seem to be a damn risky pick.
