Next graphics card uprade is going to be from AGP to PCI-E so this means I'm going to have to upgrade the motherboard as well. At the moment I have a sckt-754 athlon 64 3000, how much effect on frames-per-second is spending an extra £300 on a sckt 939 with a new CPU 3500+. Or is it GCard all the way?

I just read a review that showed how little difference higher end CPU's have on some of the games that it tested. It showed that AMD 4000+ yielded an average 5-10% boost in video game performance compared to it's 3200+ cousin. So IMO your processor is fine for now, at least for a year or so. If anything I would take that extra money and invest in a better grfx card. That, by far, will give you the biggest increase in FPS and overal quality of your video games.

btw. I'll look for that review, and post it l8tr.

Yep, I'm no expert but everything i've read says the same thing. there's like 5-6fps difference between a £80 Athlon 64 3000 and a £500 fx 57. Even Ram, the difference in price compared to the benefits in performance seem to be minimal. Just posted the question because there has to be a reason for the extra money.

The biggest questions seem to be SATA 2, and SLI.

Don't know if it'll help but here's a comparison between different CPU's in different games.
