Speaking of, I never could make Advanced Tactics Mod work for me in DA1, it was broken as fuck :<

point still stands, why not call it ffXIV and use derp combat, shouldnt have anything to do with ff7. Also that combat system wasn't that great, they actually included a turbo fast forward in the game so you could turbo auto grind areas over and over without pressing buttons = terrible system, may as well implement a game option "win now" that dpuble s combat str each time you press it.

Dunno i never used it much and i think that's the beauty of the system it was as automated as you wanted it to be, the basic system was just atb without autopause you could automate everything and make plans for every fight or you could play like me and just automate some tedious stuff like buffs and debuffs and do the rest yourself it was your choice it's the best rtwp combat system ever.

I still think X's combat was the best in the series, turn based just 'works' - you get to actually think about your next move.

(X-2 on the other hand is just a big NO.)

Calling it FFXIV would be totally cracksmoking. That game already exists. Even calling it FFXVI would be asinine, given that it's going to star Cloud, Aeris, etc. That would just be confusing as fuck.

The solution to this problem isn't naming and semantics. The solution lies in not assfucking the original game with this completely fucked up "remake."

I love FFX and FFXII equally. They both bring something "new" while still feeling familiar. Idk how to explain, they're both very different, but still maintain the main series characteristics. FFXIII on the other hand was just a big clusterfuck of a game. I still can't figure it out how they pick THAT for 2 sequels, instead of, idk, 7, 9 or X. And yes, i do love FFX-2 too.
Job changing system, done right, is one of the best systems in FF, like in FF3, FFTactics or FFX-2. Done wrong, you get FFXIII.

That wasn't sarcastic Laughing I genuinely love the flexibility of that system. Being able to customize what role your party members take, and how much automation you want is genius. It provided the same satisfaction of the process of building decks of cards for me. IMO all non-action real time RPGs should have something like Gambit / Tactics. After 10, 20, 30 hours, sometimes you just don't want to manual all the mob fights anymore.

For all you Automated Massively Offline Fantasy lovers;

http://kotaku.com/final-fantasy-composers-tease-ffxii-remake-1721575227

FFXII "remake" (he likely meant remaster) "accidentally" announced at the Distant Worlds music concert, as well as a statement of "Final Fantasy XV coming soon" - so perhaps we'll learn more at Gamescom next week.

Would be great if they are finally given the chance to actually polish and finish the final act, release with the proper audio files and maybe rebalance some of the useless technicks.

I will be impressed if they can pull this off. They have so many games coming out by 2020.

Nomura also mentioned the FFVII companion movie he directed back in 2005, noting that Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children will serve as a source of inspiration when designing the game's visuals. That said, they "don’t intend on utilizing the 3D models of Advent Children as is because, well, it’s a different technology, and it’s actually been almost ten years since Advent Children was first released."

http://in.ign.com/final-fantasy-vii/78325/news/final-fantasy-7-remakes-combat-will-feature-dramat

They should incorporate Advent Children as a playable epilogue.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

Tbh the ATB Battle system in FF7 is very bare bones and bland compared to better turn based systems like the Grandia battle system or press turn from SMT/Persona for example.
So a little overhaul wouldn't be the worst thing that's for sure, it's just that modernSE seems to think that extreme automation or a one button real time action rpg system is the only viable thing today and i think it's the worst that could happen to JRPGs they should instead think how they could make turn based/ATB combat more interesting, tactical and fun.
We had the the same situation in western RPGs some time ago action combat was the only thing back then but this changed and devs realized turn based games don't have to be boring or slow and now we have some very good western turn based games again.

ATB Turn based is so out of date nowadays. I don't see any reason why it should still be ATB of old. Of course I know people just want FF7 with better graphics, but let's say they HAVE to remake the combat. Then let's not be like the old FF games. Because when they try to do all those flashy moves in turn based like combat (ATB), we got FF13.

But maybe this is all just because I've grew tired of JRPG combats of the old days. To be honest, I think the best way to do turn base in a JRPG is something like Valkyrie Profile or Resonance of Fate. Where you have more active control over combat and still given the time to be tactical. You still have those moments where the game is paused and you think about whether to revive, or heal, or roll the dice on Sleep. If Advent Children is how Square view what FF7 in real time is like, then a combat system similar to RoF might work really well to present that.

i'm ok with changes to battle system. for purists who want 100% identical experience just play the original game. in a project like this it's impossible to keep all fans happy. if they keep battle system intact then people will find something else to complain about, like for example new cloud's hair is too spiky or isn't spiky enough and so on Laughing

Yes, how dare fans expect series staples to continue, those complaining scumbags Laughing It sounds to me a lot of non-FF fans are suddenly wanting to jump on the popular bandwagon, but only if X is changed to meet their demands Laughing

i protested back then when X came out and the downward spiral into linear corridor territory was obvious, but most people praised it.
then XII came out and i praised it for being a finally more open game again, even though not very ff-like but still a step away from the corridor world of X, sadly everyone else complained and wanted X again.

well people, you got your X, your XIII, your XIII-2, your lightning returns and soon your mainstreamed awesome-button VII remake, enjoy your meal, we wouldnt be here now if it wasnt for X Razz

we will never see an overworld map again

Lots of derps here struggling with well balanced turn based combat wanting awesome button zero challenge game. No wonder they make crap games now.

Edit: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/643146-final-fantasy-x-x-2-hd-remaster/68655301

Surely the sales figures show the fans don't want derp combat.

since when does being a FF fan mean having identical opinion about the games as you do? i'm also a fan of FF and i'm ok with changes to battle system. what does make your expectations of this game more valid than mine?
