The 85 million has pretty much guaranteed the games failure. It needed to be max 2-4 million to keep the dev's on their toes and scared of consumers shit-canning their reputations. If i were them now, i would dlc/episodic, micro-transact, p2w the shit outta this title especially knowing fans are average spending over $100-$200 on virtual items without even seeing a finished product.

One of the reasons we are getting quality from in-exile, Obsidian, Larian because they are managing tight budget and deadlines, if you fuck a release via crowdfunding people won't come back (surely no-one would give molyneux money again right?).

And os it begins... Mr. Green

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-07-21-star-citizen-feature-creep-and-money

Those media bastards. How dare they?! Twisted Evil

Quote:
It's a sentiment that has grown in recent weeks following the delay of the first-person shooter portion of Star Citizen and news of a few departures of key members of the development team. And let's not forget the huge amount of money CIG has at its disposal to fuel development of Star Citizen: at the time of publication an incredible $85m of funding had been raised from just over 900,000 backers.

Don't worry they have 17 studios working in tandem on the game. Once they fix this is quirky little bug that doesnt let them play with more than 4v4 in their MMO space sim with FPS combat on deathstars things will be smooth sailing

"Star Citizen matters BECAUSE it is big, because it is a bold dream. It is something everyone else is scared to try. You didn't back Star Citizen because you want what you've seen before. You're here and reading this because we are willing to go big, to do the things that terrify publishers. You've trusted us with your money so we can build a game, not line our pockets.

"And we sure as hell didn't run this campaign so we could put that money in the bank, guarantee ourselves a profit and turn out some flimsy replica of a game I've made before. You went all in supporting us and we've gone all in making the game."

And that's why this game is very likely to be average ... the devs are never going to get an honest opinion out of that bunch. You could have ugly as 10-poly ships shooting turds at each other at 3fps and they'd still applaud it.

This devs aren't amateurs or indie developers, they don't need "opinions" from fanboys to guide or know if their product is worth shite or not. Laughing

One thing i do know, even if they pull it off, there will be ppl complaining that they forgot to put camels floating in space. Rolling Eyes

You're delusional if you believe they don't listen to their fans. This is a fan funded project and these devs haven't made a solid game in decades - you do the math. When you got a fan base that only says good stuff you'll quickly be happy with your work. Look at Apple and the iPhone for proof of this.

You're right some people will always moan but if you look at the history of poor games you'll see many devs hide behind their fans. And these fans right now are more vocal than the nay sayers as that forum screens hot clearly shows ... Anyway, my gut says this game will be a average at best when releases and we'll see I guess.

I supported this game early on. I knew a lot of people that used to work at RSI.. Then they left.

I know a lot about what is happening internally at the company. Needless to say I got all my money refunded and i'm out.

The game will never happen at this point. We'll be lucky to even see squadron 42.

Numerous horrible management decisions have been made, and Chris allowed it to happen so the blame falls on him.

Opening up a second studio in a VERY expensive part of California was VERY stupid. This was after they had already expanded their Austin offices.

But a certain individual convinced him to move half the operation to CA..

Get your money out while you can. I saw this coming more then a year ago, and every month that goes by i'm not hearing very good news.

This whole Star Marine thing is a joke, and that is all I will say. The people still supporting this game are delusional.

Meanwhile I spent $40 on Elite Dangerous and have hundreds of hours of gameplay in that, and have received so far 3 major updates all adding new content, and am expecting an expansion to be announced end of this week. With each new update ED is basically getting closer to my dream game which has always been EVE Online but being able to control your ship in real time.

Laughing The only good thing about that snorefest is that it can be used to show off the Rift. People funding SC want action and excitement, not Space Truck Simulator. Worst 60$ I spent on a game in the last decade and that is saying something.

As for Star Citizen, I got one of the cheaper packages some years ago and I couldn't care less if it releases this year, the next or in 2025. I funded this because the pitch looked like the space game I dreamed about when I was a young gamer. I funded it because I think of Chris Roberts as a man that has a similar dream and him to be capable of pulling it off. I don't care about the things they show off from time to time. I want this game to be as big as it can be and if that takes some more years, so be it. Even if I need the best hardware money can buy to enjoy playing, so be it. I expected this more or less when I read the name Chris Roberts. If, however, they don't pull it off, for whatever reason, I guess I won't be mad about the money lost. I will be sad about a potentially awesome game that didn't happen to be. And I wouldn't give them money again.

I'm assuming you mean /basis/ and not bases. Unless you mean I have to build some sort of military base and the more bases I own means the more rational I am.

Ask yourself this -

Was it rational to open up a studio in Santa Monica? Literally one of the most expensive areas in the U.S.

Was it rational for a certain individual to buy new expensive cars? (Hint - not Chris but the person he put in charge of the business aspects)

Never mind, I don't have enough bases.

All these ships will be available in game for in game currency & you don’t need anything more than a starter ship package to get into star citizen. The only people that should be purchasing these ships are people that wish to back the game further, and not those considering these ships an in game advantage.

Ahh so thats ok then.

At those prices it's more convenient to just buy space scraps, a couple of propulsors and build a spaceship by ourselves in the garage xD

P.S. we should move this thread to the Project Codenamed Cuppah Joe's section, it would fit like a glove. Laughing

Planetary Landings

Elite Dangerous: Horizons launches with the first major gameplay expansion this holiday: eagerly-awaited planetary landings on countless 1:1 scale worlds simulated with the same commitment to realism as our galaxy.

An Ongoing Commitment to Gameplay

Elite Dangerous: Horizons introduces major content along with new features in every update, continuing to enrich the Elite Dangerous experience with new ‘open world’ activities on the surfaces of airless worlds and across the galaxy.

Introducing all-new Planetary Landings gameplay

Planetary Landings

Elite Dangerous: Horizons launches with the eagerly-awaited planetary landings on countless 1:1 scale worlds.

Game-Changing Content

Map uncharted worlds, dogfight in canyons, discover items and events you’ll only find on world surfaces.

Driving on Planets

Embark on surface expeditions in all-terrain Surface Roving Vehicles (SRVs).

Low Level Flight

Feel the subtle changes to the flight model when affected by gravity.

Fortified Settlements

Attack and defend bases from ground or above.

Play with Friends

Both above and on the ground in Wings, and participate in Powerplay and story events in unique ways. All expanding the depth of the galaxy.

So by early 2016 ED will continue added massive new content upgrades and Star Citizen will likely have a half-assed buggy Star Marine module. It's pretty pitiful how little they have to show for star citizen when ED has about half the amount of development time and had way less budget and is a fully playable game with constant updates.

Mark the date of this post. In a few years if Star Citizen ever comes out (Which looks unlikely at this point) Elite Dangerous will basically already be upgraded to the point that it will have the economy/crafting/political system on par with EVE, and have everything that Star Citizen will have anyways. (Except hyper realistic ship models, which really doesn't fucking matter)

To those who don't believe my prior post about RSI's bad management/use of funding ask yourself this; If Frontier had the same amount of funding for Elite Dangerous how much more major content pieces would we /already/ have in Elite Dangerous?

Mchart... trolling again..

comparing a procedural game with a game where every system is build from hand with a much higher amount of detail and usefull content.
And at the time where ED startet kickstarter the game was almost "finished". They already had a working universe. They already worked for about 3 years on this game when kickstarter started.

But hey.. trolling is the way to go.. its "in"

P.S. Planetary landing is not a realy planetary landing in ED. You can only land on smaller moons...

Real planetary landings will come in 1-2 years with the next addon or the one after the next. This was state from devs.
Right now in the ED Forum and on reddit there is a shitstorm rolling over the devs because of this... lol
