"I really want to play FIFA but I hate the way the players kick the ball, I want the kicking system changed. I'd prefer it if it was Foosball!"

I'm sure that would go down greaaaaaaat in a FIFA discussion, imagine how all the longtime FIFA players would feel about people coming in and demanding their games be changed to suit others? Chasing a football around a field is so old fashioned and archaic nowadays, let's change it! But no no, I'm sure those people are REAL big fans of FIFA! Rolling Eyes

That pretty much sums it up perfectly, I also don't get why these fans can't play any other "modern" action game rather than demand reform from legendary games the define genres.

Oh well, it's not like anything we say is going to change it now. "old fashioned" battle system apparently, not "cinematic" and "press a button, something awesome has to happen" for some people.

looks like there's some problem with understand one another. i don't demand anything, but i'm ok if there are changes to make combat more modern while still keeping that FF7 feel to it. if they leave it the way it is untouched i would also be perfectly fine with that. it's you who is overzealous about this, not me. Have they even released info on what the changes are?

I hope it's XII's combat system.

VII has a more involving plot. So hopefully ADB or something similar to it. Hopefully no Crisis Core like combat system.

Yep. I think the whole bishounen thing ruined XII. Nobody likes Vaan. And I guess the designers didn't either but were forced to have him in as the "lead" on paper, but seeing how they had manlier men in the party, just let you do fuck all. lol

Never finished XII. I liked the combat system, it was refreshing, but yeah, plot.

Never finished VII either actually. I grinded lots to get Aeris up some insane levels because she's the healer and that's how I always final fantasy'd. That kinda started the whole thing. By the time in the plot where a wheelchair was involved with tons of inner reflection things going on, I just couldn't continue.

They had Basch (the old warrior) as the lead for like 70% of the game development. Then the wigs were afraid the public wouldn't "connect" to a non-teen-non-emmo character. That's why the character growth and plot is so shallow.

Edited for correcting, the main character was Basch, not Balthier. I mixed up the two

It was too bad about Vaan. I would have preferred if his brother was the lead (if they want the whole "bishonen thing"). Someone that was broken by the torture, accusations, and as a fugitive.

But even with Vaan and to a slightly lesser degree Penelo, I still think FFXII was great story-wise up til they ran out of time in the last act. Kind of like Kotor 2 with Malachor V. Ashe, Balthier, Basch, Gabranth and Vayne were all great characters. The politics of the Empire and its Judges were fascinating and the scenes concerning those topics were excellent. I still fondly remember Vayne's speech at the beginning (they actually wrote the speech as a way to introduce him instead of just having exposition spewing audiences. Not many games to that.), and the scene where he subtly manipulates the Judges to join him and eliminate the opposing ones for him.

But reflecting on my time with FFX vs. FFXII I'd say the former blitzes the latter on every level and there's just so much more it could have improved on.

FFX needed this:
Ability to skip through sentence by sentence dialog, basically just bring it up to date.

Combat, no animation lock to improve the combat pacing, no need to switch all six chars every single fight for xp, that's an annoying mechanic forcing u into more animation locks.

For derps - combat option to auto resolve after killing 20 mobs or something to not be frustrated when exploring, I'm happy with the no encounter item as it is tbh.

These were the reasons combat is deemed slow as and not pew pew enough.

It works perfectly when you don't cater to the fucking dipshits that aren't your fans in the first place, the ones that had no interest in the series until it was suddenly "popular" and "cool". Bandwagon hopping tools that demand change to suit them are not your audience.

What sabin said, and add the ATB system on that with fast on your feet gameplay that requires you to think and use strategy quickly. I still play older JRPGs for the gameplay itself.

I have zero faith in testsuo nomura everything he touches lately becomes so overly involved visual novel instead of an actual game.

God, this retarded gaming industry today. Mad
They should use their money and time to create a good remake. And don't try to cater to some retards, so they might get a few more sales.

After type 0 I've pretty much given up on any FF game from now on.
This one will likely follow the latest traditions: time limits, retarded "no more than one quest active at all times!", auto-combat and the beloved rankings for how well you performed on battle! Awesome

last good jrpg I can remember playing was Valkyria Chronicles Sad. And even tho I said I get into gameplay of old JRPGs becuase of the combat, its hard anymore to beat a lot of the oldschool ones I haven't played just becuase of the lack of true character development.

Fortunately I don't give any of these companies money. I'm basically only playing retro's these days. Current attitude of devs today:

Hey remember this fucking awesome game?! > well guess what, here is a product using the name and artwork that's so fucking derp simplified it may as well be a movie or has gameplay in no way shape or form near the original.

Grab Dolphin and Xenoblade. It's insanely good, only reason why it wont be easy for me to go back is because I lost my 80 hours unfinished save when I formatted my PC Crying or Very sad

I played most of older jrpgs for their battle systems. Most were good with ATB in the lead but after that shit that is called FF XIII and some newer titles I have no more hopes for future in this genre.

Why not start again? :P
I personally unable to continue my old savegamesin jRPGs after a while, because I forget the way I was handling the progress and it just not fun to continue and better to start over.

Can't you just download someone elses savegame? As long as they haven't neglected that cross talent thing, then it should be ok.

That sucks! yeah Xenoblade is on my to play list, especially with the HDPack they have. Just haven't gotten around too it. Which is shocking, I loved the Xeno games growing up, but my favourite still so far is Xenogears. But really looking forward to playing both Xenoblade 1 and 2

It just wouldn't be MY savegame, you know?

@xDBS: Well, considering the state of things now would be a nice time to start. Because at least on the square-enix side... it's dead Sad
