A very small Russian - Ukrainian team of Piranha Bytes fans, Alersteam, is working on a new RPG named Exoplanet: First Contact. The game will borrow elements from the PB games, which helped build the "Gothic feeling". The two project managers, LEDsky and false3d, are active members in the World of Players forums.

At the moment we are 2 guys working fulltime and some professionals who lend us a hand when they have time. With the help of the Community we want to increase our manpower and to speed up the development creating all content and reaching high standards of quality in our game.

The team needs your help. They need your vote.

Expolanet is currently in the race for Steam Greenlight, which will help the game be listed on Steam after it is released.

You can also help by voting for the developer to be invited to E3 this year.

Quote:
Exoplanet:First Contact is a balanced Action/RPG mix focused on exploring and interaction with the game’s world. There will be no complicated statistic and numbers. We take everything necessary from Action-games and nothing unnecessary from RPGs.

Setting
The game is set in a Space Western universe - a subgenre of science fiction, that transposes themes of American Western books and films to a backdrop of futuristic space frontiers.

In Exoplanet: FC we have brought together distinctive elements of the Wild West, futuristic technologies and feudal society of a distant human colony, placed on a wild and dangerous planet named K'Tarsis.

The planet is going through dark times of crisis and chaos after a massive wave of gold rush. K'Tarsis is now a ghost colony with no law and order except of the rule of gun and fist. Colonists must struggle to survive in an aggressive environment and fight the uprising natives and criminals of all kind.

Gameplay
RPG means non-linear Story developed according to the player choises. The RPG-system is flexible and give the player many options for building a viable character. You can create a multiclass or a specialised hero without sinking in numbers and statistics.

Action is represented by 3rd person shooter with deep gunplay and tactical variability. You can combine different weapons and devices with the interactive environment objects to create effective combos. Each player can find different tactics suitable for his favorite combat style to complete a mission.

Players who feel ready to face some challenge will find diplomacy, crafting and using interactive environment very important for completing quests and missions on higher difficulty settings.

Story
You start your adventures on K'Tarsis as Jack Sharp, a space nomad, who has lost his starship and was enslaved by some criminals. You must recover your freedom and get revenge on your foes. Explore the dangerous planet and its darkest secrets! Find legendary treasures of mysterious race of so called "Dark Wanderers"! You will become a part of epic events and fascinating stories! Be prepared to make hard choices and be ready to face consequences! It's up to you - be a hero or a villain!

Features:

Interactive environment as a gameplay component. For example you can catch a poisonous bug and throw it as a sticky grenade, causing chaos and fun!
Non-linear story and various gameplay options. You can choose your tactics. Lead this world to peace and order or cause war, violence and destruction.
Combo attacks with the use of interactive environment. For example you can grab, throw and shoot an explosive canister over a group of enemies to cause an effective area of effect damage.
Fascinating story and charismatic characters.
Exoplanet FC is a beginning of an epic space saga!

Wasn't there a thread for this? I knew about the game for quite a while, but I didn't make a thread because I always thought there is one for some reason.

Man, I really hope they actually finish it. I knew LEDsky from (russian) Gothic community for a while and he is indeed quite skilled individual with his own ideas. Let's hope we will get RPG with "gothic" spirit.

I bet 10€.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Funded and new stretch goals added Smile

$50,000: When starting a new game, you will be able to choose from several background options for Jack Sharp. These options will give him bonuses for certain skills and sometimes unique perks, affecting the gameplay in many ways.

$60,000: This stretch goal is heavily inspired by one of the most important Firefly TV-series concepts and by the one of the most popular mod categories for open world RPG’s, as well - the building of a home or a mobile base for the player.

$80,000: In our vision of the Exoplanet’s complete state, we see a global map as a convenient mode for travelling between locations and finding new ones. Global map will become a new level of exploration of the game’s world, similar to Fallout 1-2 or Wasteland 2, to give you a contemporary example.

Glad that this project will happen, I've been keeping it under my radar since the beginning when I read the combo Gothic, Firefly and saw the Tremors monster popping up. Very Happy
It will be likely rough as hell with animations borrowed from Robocop and assets from the early 2000s, but... we like it rough Cool Face

I wonder if this can become a new Precursors. Really hope it does!

Oh man. Precursors... such a spectacular IDEA and PREMISE, but sadly ruined by its execution Sad Precursors should have been everything I ever wanted in a game, if only it could have been programmed properly. Xenus (Boiling Point) is still one of my all time favourite games for the sheer level of freedom offered that pointed and laughed at the tiny todger of OTHER games claiming "unlimited freedom", but it was so insanely buggy and half-broken-half-playable, so I really didn't have high hopes for Precursors.. shame Sad

Very true Crying or Very sad, I too had so much fun with them despite everything, until inevitable game-breaking bugs and ghost quests started to appear (without mentioning all the troubles to avoid the graphical ones, especially Precursors and its shading issues, a nightmare).

Wesp5 is trying/has tried to fix some of the mess, but unfortunately it's been a while since the last update: http://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23454
(This level of brokeness made even Vampire Bloodlines look like a polished gem xD)

Well for me metro series was linear and annyoing in that respect, fancy graphics and nicely put together sure but a solid game? Not for me.

In case anyone is interested, the rin rin men have the yarr version in Steamrip form (~900MB). I too will be waiting though, the game likely needs years of Early Access nurturing and a couple of miracles in the middle. Nothing new under the sun xD
