No, you can't , IDE standard is not hot-swapable. If you'd go and do that, you'd expirience lockups, maybe even crashes, do that too many times and say bye-bye to your roms. The only standards that support hot-swap are Firewire, USB and SATA.

Hey, what about if you make all your IDE Optical drives into SCSI with IDE-to-SCSI adapter AEC7722, (http://www.tomshardware.com/storage/20030130/scsi_adapters-02.html#aec7722_the_bridge_between_ide_and_scsi)
and SCSI card
Would this work?
Also about power switch for IDE drives, it'll work no problem but you can't do it while your PC is still running. Still easiest way to go, and how often do you people use your burners anyway.

Well, that's like scratching your left year with your right hand through the back of your head: using a bridge and then an addon card. Why don't you go and read the forum properly before you post, the proposed method was to simply use a PCI IDE controller (if you're wondering, this appears in the device manager as a SCSI controller, you don't need to have SCSI written all over the controller's box), which costs about 20$ tops. Someone even managed to get it to work. Now go and read this

As for the switches, this might not work for everybody, as I said before, my system needed to have the IDE cable removed, removing only the power cable made it freeze at the "detecting IDE drives" screen.

Okay, this has to be solved somehow...
I can run starforce, securom & safedisc games without disconnecting or hiding anything. (x3, ufo, nfs:mw etc.)
The only factor I have found so far is that I've got a board with the nforce3 chipset, and the drivers I use with my dvd-burner is called nvatabus.sys, the ones coming with nforce 5.10 drivers.
Can people post which chipset their board is using and whether they need to unplug drives, hide units or can mount and run with dt4?

Here using dual sata 2 socket 939 chipset norhbridge : ULi/ALi M1689 Northbridge: AMD Hammer IMC, Southbridge : Uli/ALi M1563. Only with scct lower number of sf ) i've to disconnect my IDE 2 manualy in my bios works fine here, and some other games, thus this works always here disabling ide in bios, but the weirdest thing is the with most of the games i don't have to shut down my channel 2 in my bios, but can play the game just only mounting in daemon tools 4 without any tools or whatever, even with the highist sf numbers
