Since the release of The Witcher 3, we had Batman Arkham PC-crap...
That shit port had extremely high scores all over the net. Not saying this will be the case again but... But.

@blackeyedboy Well it IS a good game, with terrible performance.

Might be for you, mate. For ME, "good game" and "terrible performance" don't go hand in hand and are certainly not defining the recipe for buying or playing.

Seems you didn't get what I said, but that's not the thread for that anyway. Gameplay and Performance are two different things, as you said "don't go hand in hand". It's the best Batman title to date but I still can't play it properly because of the frame drops in most places.

From what I've read this is Metal Gear Sandbox with little story :/
Well we will see how it plays, but I have a bad feeling about this.

I am talking about the WHOLE PACKAGE, not the combat system or graphics or... anything else (as "slices" of an entire package). This "whole package" includes optimizations and proper behavior on a specific technical platform - we are talking about PC here. The game lacks the latter, thus it doesn't deserve from my part the "good game" title.

From the gt review:

As I suspected. Well, that's a skip for me then, unfortunately I've only played MGS1 on the good ol' psx, and I hate playing something where I can't follow what's going on. |
IMOOOOOOOOO MGS stories have been trash since 4 anyway. I fully expect this game's story to be the same (surprise me Kojima!) even if you get the "finer details". So I recommend that you still play it for the good gameplay as you won't be really missing much compared to someone that gets 100% of the story - bad writing is bad writing.

Yeah kojima is a terrible writer, theres no doubt about that.
but he is good at in game cinematography and creating engaging scenes.
so while I know the story wont rival a thomas pynchon epic, I will definitely be looking at some of the youtube recap videos so i can have some context while I play it, as I know it will be totally absurd, but I also have a feeling ill really enjoy that.
metal gear kind of like a fast and furious film at this point, except without the self-awareness (which makes it even funnier for me personally)

They were, and they will always be to a lot of us. Not mentioning it every time doesn't mean it wasn't a problem you know...
Like been said here before... they list bugs/criticize features/... and still give out perfect scores.
Anywho, at the end of the day the game will probably be good and fun... just not perfect.

Kojima and his team of writers are really good with characters. MGS3 had so many interesting characters that all tied into the main theme. And they managed to show all that through many different things. In terms of having a lot of great characters in one game, I think this is up there with Kotor2.
But the nature of the genre just makes it harder and harder to follow. Espionage are usually far too intertwined to be easily told. Now multiple that by 6, factoring in how many characters over those 6 games intertwine with each other and you get some really complicated and confusing lore. Doesn't help that MGS are really "out there" with the tech, super natural, conspiracy, etc.
Still, that is the charm of the series. It is unique in games.

Turns out the vast majority of reviewers played it with God Mode enabled and ignored the Mother Base just so they can finish it quickly.

Quote: | Is MGS5 a fitting legacy to the series? I can't say… yet. Based on the UK boot camp, I know of only one reviewer (who was able to play for six days) who has seen enough of the game to deliver a meaningful perspective… and I can't even explain why for fear of spoilers. In my boot camp, reviewers were charging through missions wearing the chicken hat (which makes you invisible) almost completely ignoring Mother Base and all the side-ops in a race for the 'end'. Will it score high? I mean, duh, but I don't feel the boot camp was sufficient basis to offer my views on Kojima's intentions and MGS5's abiding legacy. |
In other words best to ignore the reviews. And btw this is the fault of Konami who gave them only a few days to finish it.
Quote: | We played between 9am to 5pm, with no unsupervised play outside these hours. That's a maximum play time of 40 hours, assuming no stoppages for eating, drinking, stretching… or reality. So you're trying to complete a 35-50 hour game (or longer, depending on your play style and the nature of your 'completion'… I can't say more), that you've been anticipating for five years, in a realistic window of 30-35 hours. |
