Daedalic Entertainment, a leading developer and publisher of story-driven games, has teamed up with long-standing strategy game experts Funatics to create Valhalla Hills – a humorous new civilization-building strategy game.
Valhalla Hills is about a Viking Clan struggling to survive in a harsh mountain region as they attempt to build a “Valhalla on Earth.”

Brief Description
Valhalla Hills is a building strategy game in the tradition of games like The Settlers or “Cultures”. The player has to lead his outcast Viking heroes to the top of a mountain, where a magical portal is leading to Valhalla. But to do so the Vikings need to do one thing first: Survive!
The player faces challenges and dangers in the inhospitable mountain region and find a way to the peak. Since the Vikings wouldn’t survive long in this territory the player has to take good care of them, protect them, clothe them and feed them as well as help them to fend off ghostly residents and wild beasts. The Vikings with a mind of their own and a thirst for mead tend to have a relaxed view on things, making it harder for the player to achieve his goal. And then the next threat is nearing over the high seas…
Valhalla Hills features an indirect control. You do not control single characters but give general commands. These should be well-thought, the protagonists have their own mind and their own needs they want to follow. Even if that means work is left undone.
Constantly newly generated maps, varying mountain terrains, day and night cycles and a well-balanced economy-system ensure endless challenges and variety.
Technically Valhalla Hills is powered by the Unreal 4 Engine making its optical performance gleam.
The Developers
By the true creators of “The Settlers 2″ and the “Cultures”-series
The mastermind and lead developer of “Valhalla Hills” is no lesser than Thomas Häuser, who was head of „The Settlers 2“ 20 years ago, which is the number one classical build-up game. Thomas also was one of creatives and main programmer of the popular “Cultures”-series. His games have been thrilling millions of players since the end of the 1980’s.
Right next to him is Thorsten Kneisel, another old hand in the sector. Under his guidance the unique graphic-style of Valhalla Hills developed, in cooperation with experts like Ralf Marczinczik (e.g. Gothic, The Settlers 6) and Oswin Neumann (e.g. The Settlers 7, Risen 2).
The studio Funatics is one of the oldest developing companies in Germany, existing for more than 17 years. Masterpieces like “Zanzarah”, the “Cultures”-series or “Tom Clancy’s Endwar” for Nintendo DS and Sony PSP originated here, as well as some sequels of “The Settlers”-series “(Bluebyte / Ubisoft) developed by or with members of the Funatics crew.
Too bad it's an early access title, likely means pushed out release, broken promises, final release to be alpha quality and year of patching to make it playable after release.. Shame really sounds like a good idea
So I'm not the only one getting a Populous vibe from this
Unfortunately, prudislav is right, and it'll most likely be a Settlers clone, rather than Populous
Settlers 2 is one of my favourite games of all times. So yay for this!
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
Any idea how to change camera and zoom-in & out? Want little top down-ish position.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Miscellaneous
Several small fixes in localization and in the game.
Just tried the game.. the dev of this game made some very bad choices
1- I have to build a building for every viking (if i need 5 fishermens i need 5 fishermen's hut)
2- Very tiny islands, in 30min playing on the same island the woodcutter chopped every tree available and it doesn't seem to spawn new ones
3- You can't control the military vikings, they just stay roaming around their camp (again, 1 camp per soldier)
1) same as settlers / cultures ... honestly make no sense to have 1 hut for 5 fishermen in games like this
2) build a forester extension
3) You don't take direct control of your vikings, you have to manage their actions instead. When you click on your warcamp, you see 3 buttons (including removing that building). The third button lets you move the warcamp where you want on the map and the warriors follow where you place it.

So is this game any good now or is it still boring as fuck?
I only played the EA before and it was far from done with some stability issues. But gameplay wise it was kinda meh. No real challenge, just the mindless building of crap over and over again.

Also the maps get bigger later on.
Oh.. ok. I had played for 2 maps after the tutorial and it was the same shit over and over again. Didn't expect the game to change the maps
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
