Question.

Ive installed Win10 from Win7 (which I own) but how do I get a Key to Win10.
You only get to Upgrade or install Win10 1 year free.

But since I installed now I get it for free the rest of my life but where is the Key for Win10 ?

Thanks.

Which begs the question when does the MS database stop recognizing a registered machine? After you change the motherboard? It can't be something as simple as a GPU or HDD.

edit seems so. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2766253/changed-motherboard-windows-telling-activate-windows.html

I installed the new motherboard and Windows 10 reports it isn't activated. I called Microsoft and explained the situation. They were not helpful. I was told I would have to reinstall the original operating system and then upgrade to Windows 10 again to register the hardware.

hdd change isn't enough as far as i know but changing the ram already IS enough to break your activation.
but you can re-activate it if you call the ms support/activation hotline

What exactly are you going to give them to identify you? Your Win7/8.1 key?

Okay. thanks.
But what happens after a year, lets say 1.5 years from now, and I want to reinstall Win10.
Do I just install Win10 ? Or install Win7 then Win10 again and it says its legal ?

Sorry for the questions, cant really find any info on the web.

just install windows 10 and go online and it's activated. you only need to do the upgrade once.

Unless of course Microsoft cannot find your damn purchase that was done off their fecking website. That's what happened to me with Win 8.1 and any inclination to go legit gone out the window.

Did you expect anything less? Laughing
Be glad you don't have to reimburse them for giving you that key, how dare you to upgrade!

Yep, apparently my only option is to reinstall Win8 and then upgrade again to Win10 and then do fresh install of Win10...

I thought this was suppose to be progress@ not 10 steps backwards.

So I've been on Windows 10 for about a month now (at home) and I'm kinda finding it meh.

I think I spend more time on my work computer than home and that one still runs Windows 7.

I really think Win 7 was very good, was hoping for Windows 10 to be less annoying than it is. Maybe the issue is I haven't invested any time into tweaking it, can't expect that shit to suit me out of the box eh?

why upgrading a nonlegit version in the first way? you will end up in backup you system drive and reinstalling 10 clean either way

Could somebody remind me if there's a new Daz or dazloader for Windows 10 or something to activate it?.. Not that i'm planning to go to W10, but just incase.

I remember i've asked about it back then but there's 2 many pages now here @@;;;

Just the name, no links (ofcourse).. Maybe there was a forum with it?

nah not yet, wanna test the OS first in this upgraded install, if I don't like it I can revert back to my win7 install. saves me time.

+ why would i need ms toolkit when i'm activated now?

if all is well, i'll jsut do a clean install. but i think if there were no issues with the upgrade install, rollback should be even easier.

na, upgrade might work well, but in most of the cases something isnt right at all (even it you dont notice it). upgrading a windows version to another was always a bad idea. its not as bad as it was prior but as a guy who knows how to handle his pc you should go for a clean install anyway. rollback might fail too Wink
