So the issue that some of you guys have here is that what he did was illegal and he made money? Money must be the key word here because you guys don't seem to have a problem with getting games for free and sharing 'em or? How is this is morally better? I just don't get it.

I think 60% of the people here complaining about are just jealous he made money in such an easy way and some of us were able to profit from it too, and the other 40% are legitimately angry due to it being illegal. But seriously, why care so much for something illegal? Not like you're affected if you don't buy from him.

People murder, terrorise, riot and beat people up - and you're making a fuss about something as insignificant as this. Neutral

Oh just get over yourself Praetori. People murder kill rape children sell drugs, all kinds of shit. But look how much money and time the RIAA and MPAA are dumping into stopping piracy. Seems just as questionable as us bickering of this too hmm?

I just don't see how this directly affects you.

I appreciate and I respect your opinion, but I simply don't see a point in being happy his site was shut down. Saying he was making money off piracy is a legitimate reason - but he explicity said he doesn't endorse piracy and meant to sell these keys to people who already bought the original copy only. Ofcourse, he knew pirates would use his service, but still, it's different from, say, selling warez'ed games.

How is it any different than selling pirated copies on the street?
he's taken something that is not legal for resell and not only reselling it (the illegal part) but charging an outrageous 100% markup.

People who sell copies on the street take something that is not legal for resell, and sell it for more than it cost them to purchase the CD, make the cover, etc.

Seems the same to me.

There are two issues here:
1)he did something illegal by reselling keys he is not allowed to resell
2)he made an obscene profit on something illegal

I'm not jealous of whatever money he made, I could care less, but the fact is that he's making money off of something illegal. $2, $200, whatever he made, it was too much.

There is a big difference morally between downloading a program for your own use, and making money off of someone else's product. Regardless of what he said, and regardless of whether or not he intended to sell the keys to people who pirate (thats not the illegal part, its selling them to ANYONE except someone in thailand that is illegal) he still was making money off an illegal venture. He may not have intended to sell the keys to pirates, but he did intend to sell the keys and violate the law and profit from it.

Too many assumptions in this thread.

Get your facts straight before you start hypothesise. This bunch of speculations is perhaps good source material for a fairie story, but reality is different.

If you look up the old thread you can learn a lot of what went on there, including the original site that he got keys from and them cutting him off after they found out that he was reselling.

We know he got the keys from Thailand
We know what the keys actually cost (you can look up the price anytime you want)
We know what he was charging them
we also know its illegal to resell the keys anywhere but Thailand

I don't see any assumptions there. The fact remains he was selling goods that he was not legally entitled to sell at a price that far exceeded what he paid for them. It is also fact that he knowingly gave someone a known popular pirated key because he supposedly "ran out" of legit keys.

How do you know it's illegal to resell the keys anywhere but in Thailand?

I hear it's illegal to resell the games, but to my knowledge there's no info about the keys themselves.

When this was originally brought to light someone linked to one of the Thai sites that stated it was illegal to resell the keys, thats why the company he originally was buying from cut him off, and why he had a disruption in his supply. He had to scramble to find another supplier to fill all the orders he had. I suspect this was right around the time he sold someone a key from an nfo. He claimed he was out of stock and a friend gave it to him.

In this case, the key is the product. Reselling price controlled products outside of their price controlled area is a known violation of trade and customs laws. It may not always be illegal in the country he's selling to, but it is for sure illegal in the country he exported the keys from.

in the UK its legal to sell keys i think because its legal to resell windows licenses.
some company is selling loads of windows licenses that corporations no longer require.
there was an article about it on msfn.org about a month ago but i cant remember the name of the site.

we already covered that earlier, read the thread. THe article clearly stated the only reason they were being resold was becuase of a loophole in the license agreement AND a loophole in the british law. The law alone doesn't allow resale of the keys, the loophole in the agreement microsoft wrote is what enables those licenses to be resold.
