Question about Quiet, only read if you finished the game:
Spoiler: | She left in the final mission, so she can't be selected as buddy anymore. Anyway to get she back as a buddy? I mean, she is very useful in some missions. I lost interest in continuing playing after end because of this. |

I think the only way to do it is via a mod.
Story info:
Spoiler: | She sacrifices herself for you since shew speaks English which activates the vocal cord parasites in her throat. Then she retreats into the desert so she can't infect anyone and dies. |

Big Boss is based on Sean Connery. Very obvious but confirmed anyway.
I used to be a knee like you. Then I took an adventurer in the arrow.

Apologies to my friend The_Zeel who has been saying PW had a good story but I was always like "nah". I just finished watching it on youtube and I liked it very much.
Why exactly didn't I like it the first time then? I don't know. It was when it first came out so perhaps what I watched was incomplete? In fact there were quite a lot of stuff I saw now that I didn't remember..
Its story is a nice recap and aftermath of MGS3. A little fanfictiony since the whole plot was built around the relationship of Snake and The Boss.. "Fans loved that, let's follow up on that!" But it wasn't bad.. Of course the canon is fucked for the 1000th time by having AIs in the 70s but whatever.
I liked the simplicity of the story.. No nanomachines, no parasites.. The deterrence theory idea was really far fetched but it was interesting writing by Kojima.. Makes you think. The focus on nukes and what power and what dangers come with it has been absent from the series since MGS1! Along with NotOtacon being back in a way.. I'd say this game reminded me of MGS1 the most between all MGS games that followed it.
Of course not everything is as great as in MGS1. Snake's confusion of what really happened with The Boss is.. confusing itself. He should know what happened.. and at times he seems he does.. and at others he doesn't. His decision to leave her behind is also baffling given everyone else in the end was like "ZOMG Da Boss!!" and he's like "she betrayed me, bye bitch" (I'm exaggerating here).
The two villains of sorts are boring and bad. The twists about their allegiances, goals and plans are just noise. The melodrama of will the US retaliate?? does not work with poor lines and badly directed voice acting. The deus ex machina solution of the singing Boss attempts to save the situation by asking us to respond emotionally to it rather than rationally and it just about succeeds.
Finally Paz's character and her uprising is just garbage.
To conclude to me this felt like a big step up from the garbage MGS4 plot and writing and not too dissimilar from the writing of the first trilogy of the games something that I was convinced was no longer possible (of course nothing Kojima writes these days will ever touch Snatcher, Policenauts, MGS1. Simpler times, simpler games, he could steal from Hollywood with no fucks given and he didn't have to worry about outdoing himself).
It also pains me to know how Chico, NotOtacon, Strangelove and Big Boss were written in the two MGSV games. Kaz was the only one that was ok and Paz is just awful in all incarnations so whatever Truly sad

Well, first he apologised to The_Zeel, presumably because in the past one at point consolitis must have commented on Peace Walker having some weak elements to its narrative. He finished rewatching it today and now it seems he likes it very much.
Could this be because he had just finished watching MGSV? Anything in comparison to that must seem very well written.
Anyway, he didn't remember what he didn't like the first time around, which is understandable because depending on how you play the game, you might miss some things. Perhaps the playthrough he had seen wasn't a full one? He saw things that appeared to be new, so all signs would point to this being the case.
The story of Peacewalker is a 'nice recap' of the events that unfold after Metal Gear Solid 3 (Snake Eater, you can get a decent version on PS3/360, it's HD). He proceeded to inform us that it's a little 'fanfictiony', personally I have no issues with this, but this isn't about me. One thing I would agree on in his assessment is that the canon of the story is once again contradictory to another set of events but we're all used to that by now.
What consolitis seemed to enjoy the most was how simplistic the story was presented to the player. No confusing bullshit - and the writing was interesting. It leaves you thinking. If something can do that, then obviously it's interesting and the writer has done a good job. He goes on to explain that the perils of nuclear weaponry has been absent from the series since the first installment on the Playstation 1. I would personally disagree since I seem to recall quite a few conversations that go into this over various games, but perhaps not in the detail as in MGS1. One could assume that this is because Metal Gears as weapons are seen as bigger deterrents than bombs... they aren't limited to just launching warheads. Who can really say.
"Nothing is as great as MGS1" - again, consolitis is right on the money. The confusion he references is the convenient type. Snake is confused about the Boss, of course he is. Snake is an idiot any time you're able to play as him or when it's convenient for their broken story to work. At the end of MGS2 he comes across as a mentor who is very philosphical, then the next time we get to control him (MGS4) he's a dimwit again. Snake is who he needs to be to tie certain plot elements together. It's retarded, but what are you going to do?
The villains... I don't quite remember so I cannot comment on this. I played it on PSP when it first came out. Man, that sucked. The frame rate, loading times etc. It was a NIGHTMARE. Plus the screen was so small because it was a PSPGO. I remember buying that GO because it was $200 and I was catching a train home. I had no games to play so all I could do was go through the menus. What a boring trip.
consolitis is almost finished at this point and brings up Paz and her uprising. To be honest, I don't care for the story in any of these portable games. Or the characters. It's a shame they really tied these games to the main series because 1) You could miss a lot if you never played these lower budget games and 2) there's never any good cinematics to go with them.
Anyway, "it felt like a big step up from the garbage of MGS4" - but I'm pretty sure you could piss on a wall and write a better story than that with your urine without trying, so it's not a big achievement.
Blah blah blah, something else, truly sad. Did you not see the emoticon? Let me help:

What if Kojima went to Kickstarter with an all star developer team?
Then it'd end up like Mighty No9 and he'd have 3 other vertical kickstarters with no news about the game except delays.

Kojima, Tim Schafer, Keiji Inafune and Peter Molyneux should team up for a kickstarter. It will be backed within a minute of launching
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Heh maybe so, how many millions did he spend during the development of Metal Gear Solid V, some fifty or so I believe and Konami had enough and probably demanded he finish the game sometime instead of just spending more of their money and another year or two on development.
Guess we'll never know the true reason why he left though Konami shifting focus towards the mobile market and leaving most of their "AAA" franchises behind to focus on simpler games is probably part of it.

1) I believe that's very old from March? and I am the one that posted it in this forum?
2) Shitty threads go the top all the time. For example the very recent "9/11 DLC!!!" "clues" reddit thread which I correctly understood it was the gullible MGS fanbase wasting their time with some troll.

The ones that shit me are the shotgun snipers. It's bad enough that everyone telepathically knows your exact position, but a guy hitting you - and knocking you down - with a shotgun from 150m away? Come the fuck on.
