one quick question... if you only have one HD with sata controller, do you still have to physically unplug your ide cdrom/dvdrom to run SF protected games?

thanks in advance.

Yup, unless your ide dvdrom/rw are connected to sata controller.

It all comes down to the SATA itself.

Most chipset-integrated SATA devices is IDE compatible, meaning they will work as any IDE device when it comes to drivers/detection/installing windows.
Extra SATA controllers on the other hand (like Sil3114 on most nForce 4 boards with 4+4 SATA) is detected as SCSI and requires a driver upon install of windows. Those could probably bypass Starforce...

well i have a nforce4-ultra motherboard and i do have 4+4 sata channels (2x primary master, 2x primary slave, 2x secondary master, 2x secondary slave).
it didnt ask me for a driver when installing windows tho... but i used XP/SP2 CD, i think its needed only if you install normal XP.
i also have a dvd burner but honestly i dont know if its connected to sata or ide... and everest doesnt tell, it just says "atapi interface".

i keep reading on another site tho that if your only hd is SATA, to run SF games you can either:
- disable all ide channels.
- if system 1 doesnt work, go to bios, and set "on chip serial ata" to "serial ata only", this forces all devices to run on sata controller and not ide compatible.

thing is i dont have any sf3 games to test it on... anyone tried? thanks.
